Pasting things can be an enormous hassle because of how they're saved. Everyone knows this. Sometimes you want it like it is, but oftentimes getting a template into the position you want is a fiasco.

Simple solution: Next to paste, we add advanced paste. Once you click with this, the template isn't immediately pasted. Instead, it can now be re-positioned with the movement keys, and finalized by pressing enter. That's it. No need to alter the source of templates or the way they're copied. Just let us nudge them with the arrow keys. Should succinctly solve the problem.

    I approve.
This would immediately kill the need for "scaffolding" to build off of, and sounds like a simple enough thing to implement.
(yes, I know, coding is rarely that simple)

I say we make Durendal's idea the default, with the current way of doing it "advanced". More often than not, when I copy, paste, I only need to fudge something and this would be crazy useful.

As a matter of fact, I don't even care which way is default. If I got to tick a box to get to this feature, so be it.

I'd figured leaving the current one because sometimes, you really do want to click and paste a bunch of stuff at once. Though reading this and thinking on it, having it not stop pasting when you click enter is a good idea too. Once you're in 'nudge mode,' you can just click enter to paste as many times as desired until done. Maybe holding shift nudges by ten to make it easier to paste in this mode? Hold control to use movement keys to rotate? Something along those lines, in any case.

Yes, this would save so much time in build mode and cure maybe the most frustrating problem when building. This should apply also to placing blocks with a bigger "brush size".

schema and Bench, would this be hard to implement?

It would literally save hours in the building of bigger ships and ease frustration in building ships of any size. So players can get quicker over with building ships and spend more time playing =)

How high are this kind of changes in priority list anyway?
I've seen lots of requests for seemingly small improvements to adv. build mode, such as better copy/paste, painting, select/replace all block x, move ship core etc. but didn't find single entry about improving adv. build mode in the StarMade Active Developement Timeline.

We need a way to bump any bounding box's size and position with keys as well, including placing and removing blocks. Additionally, it would be nice to be able to hold a modifier key to make the selection move farther per press.
