      My guess it that verifying from Steam fixed it -- it was likely caused by file corruption, which would cause apparently random issues. Good to know it's all working again! ^_^

      Very strange. That should not have had any effect on the launcher. The only reason I can think of right off is a filesystem/drive error (or long drive spin-up) -- such a scenario could cause the launcher to hang (and thus fade to white) while waiting for Windows to read the affected file(s).
