While I respect your opinion you seem to have missed the point. Planests quite small could still be made with little issue. Think about the math. If you draw a line from the surface to the core you have the radius. Then if you step along that line in 1 meter increments the change is very small...

First, off it is a game. It already simulates technology we don't currently have. It wouldn't be hard to assume you have a life/ science detection system. Right now you could take off to the outer edged of the galaxy and it could be quite some time before anyone finds you if ever. As to the 2...

Yes you could do it on a 1okm planet. The only disadvantage to the smaller planet is that voxels will be fore visibly different in size top to bottom. However even on a 10 Km planet the difference would be 1 meter top and .9999 meters bottom roughly. Using the build plane/ field would allow...

I think I get what your problem is. You think that the voxels need to be perfect cubes. They don't. In fact for this you don't want that. The surface furthest out from the planet core is going to be slightly larger. This is purely dealing with the generated surface. To build a building you could...

Allow rail dockers to dock with other rail dockers

Thanks wish their search system was better. I did a search but guess unless it is exact and you are willing to go through every last one you are going to miss it.

Wrong! Do you see the images above that are of the two worlds I posted on here? Do they look like cubes? They are built using that exact method. They are spheres. The only reason the cube is shown is to show you how they tessellation produces matching pair triangles. The reason it isn't a cube...

Not the easiest thing to draw. But the following image may give you a good idea of what I am talking about. I probably can create a program to demonstrate it faster than I could draw it. Anyway the math to do it is fairly simple. Your height map can be handled two ways. You can build it at the...

Take your top image and put it on the six sides of a square. Then tessellate by cutting each of the triangles lines in half. Then move them out to the distance you want away from the core of the planet. When you are done each triangle becomes 4 thus you are always left with pairs. Those pairs...

Standardized docking system, using rail system

Build mode bit of an extreme work around. :) but at least it works. Just think of what fun you could come up with using the suggestion and the ability to undock or launch stuff.

You can generate a planet by starting with a cube and dividing each side into 2 triangles. Then tessellate those to the desired LOD. Then you are left with pairs of triangles that can be reassembled into squares. I know it can be done because that was how I built these ages ago. The only thing...

Standardized docking system, using rail system

No there is no way to put a rail in the menu bar or activate the rail itself.

I'm not sure what method they are using exactly. It would be simpler if they just used triangle for the surface. It could still be deform-able and mine-able with little work and allow building buildings and other structures on it. Honestly I don't care what I dig out of the ground isn't a...

There is a game/demo to this effect. It is open source if I remember correctly.

Allow rail dockers to dock with other rail dockers

If you noticed in the general discussion there is several suggestions on USD or universal standard docking systems. There is a number of problems inherent to all of them. The various systems suggested are incompatible with one another. The ship that docks must be the ship that undocks. In short...

Standardized docking system, using rail system

I programmed for more than 30 years now. I doubt it would be that hard of a change. Basically they would need to allow for the block to target other blocks just like it does the rail system then redirect to the same code it does for aligning and docking. It would be locked stationary rather than...

Standardized docking system, using rail system

You are right no matter what someone won't be happy. What could fix this entire issue is if one change was made so that a rail docker could dock to another rail docker. Just adding that simple extra function would meaning all docking ports could connect to one another.

Standardized docking system, using rail system

I noticed his after I went and posted my post. His didn't show up when I looked for standard docking... How about a smaller ship that only has room for a 1x2 hatch how does it connect to this system? The system you pointed to is great if you have to larger ships you want to dock. It however is...

      Introducing... USD type 1 *updated*

Nice work. Just found this after posting my own idea. It didn't show up when I searched the titles probably because I wasn't searching for USD. It is better than mine in you can dock ship to ship. Great if you have to capital size ships. Probably not so great for smaller ships though where you...

Standardized docking system, using rail system

Well I've been using the rail system while it was in dev and loved it and glad it has finally come to production mode. That said I did notice one thing that may cause some interesting issues. It isn't a bug either. I built a station and a number of ships where I put entry hatches so I could get...

      FOF Missiles

If there was one suggest I would give currently it would be FOF missiles. Meaning any missile other than a dumb fire shouldn't target a faction member or ally. Which makes sense we have that technology today so you would assume in a technology level this game represents it should also exist.
