You've got a lot of good thought going here.
Scifi-wise, this makes sense because high energy beams could cause chemical reactions with the atmosphere and wreck whatever you're trying to extract. Alternatively, salvage beams could work on planets, but at around 1%-3% of their normal efficiency...
If I understand correctly, the shipyard update will include a form of build mode that uses unlimited "virtual" blocks to create a ship blueprint without actually constructing a ship. Since it isn't building anything, this should be termed "design mode" rather than "build mode" to prevent any...
Don't forget about the shipyard update! There won't be any "blueprint spawning" as we know it. As I understand, build mode will be a sort of "creative mode" without any blocks, strictly for creating blueprints. (Perhaps we should call it "design mode" instead to avoid confusion.) Blueprints will...
I think both unconstrained steering and free aiming (aiming without moving the ship) should be activated by key commands. Both functions should have both toggle and press-and-hold bindings. In other words, press a key to toggle (think caps lock) and hold down a different key to switch...
Autopilot should be a built-in feature, not a huge, bulky thing that adds a lot of mass to your ship. We shouldn't need effects, and probably shouldn't need logic.
This is a way of distributing materials around the galaxy while still allowing people to craft everything from the materials in one system or even on one planet. You could just have trace amounts of all materials everywhere, but a catalyst/additive system like this would be spicier.
This is...
What the crafting systems needs is sense. I don't mean realism. I mean believable complexity with enough structure to make things easier to remember. Some materials should be hard. Others should hold a lot of energy. That sort of thing. Certain categories of products should use certain...
It would be tricky to implement slope handrails and make them look right, but if Schema can do it, that's one-up more thing Starmade will have over Minecraft.
I agree - put the rail to one side of the block. I say put it *exactly* on the edge of the block so that a 1m wide walkway can have...
There's a fairly simple way to do that. Add a bonus if salvage beams hit nothing but ore. It would be easiest to get the bonus with a single beam. Perhaps a particular effect or slave (missile slave?) would cause beams to auto-target ore within a 3-meter radius or something.
Ah, not so, my good man. Computation of leaks could be fairly simple. Save the shape of the atmosphere and if a block is destroyed next to it, see if it exposes the area to vacuum. If it's a hole caused by weapons fire, the other side shouldn't be sealed so there's little need to actually...
The thing is, ships I fly range between 30 seconds and about 7 seconds charge time, so setting it to 30 would waste a lot of time. It's a bit of effort to set up, but I might do it if I need to make another long FTL voyage.
Well there's a good idea... my gaming mouse might be able to macro it. That limits the macro to a specific ship's jump drive, though. I'd have to record one for every different drive I use.
  o_O
It'd be simpler to just point at another entity and press a hotkey to switch to it in build mode. A better visual cue to tell what's part of the current entity and what's not would also be good. A control like this will be 100% necessary for the shipyard update, and it...
Love this:
Absolutely abhor this:
Just leave BOBBY alone and leave it functional and add the cool way to control turrets. I would also like to see a computer (outside the core) that can control the turrets, or control a specific turret or group of turrets. The advantage of human control over...
