Hit Rate and Effective DPS vs. Power Efficiency

I disagree. Real life battle cannons are not used for one shotting their targets, they are used for punching through armor. Battleships and tanks do not one shot each other with their main cannons.

Suggestion Elect Moderators Like Council Members

Even without faction bias and group politics, think about the incentives this system would produce: Popular and well liked moderators would get re-elected, which would encourage moderators to make decisions based on how it would affect their popularity and NOT on wether or not the rule actually...

Allow rails and rail dockers to slave logic blocks

Do you mean a rail docker? If so, yeah that would be handy.

Hit Rate and Effective DPS vs. Power Efficiency

I think it's more that rapid fire weapons are used when the target is hard to hit and extremely fragile. If you look at armored vehicles and navy vessels, rapid fire weapons are used to shoot small or distant targets like infantry, aircraft, etc who all stop functioning after one or two hits...

Hit Rate and Effective DPS vs. Power Efficiency

Uh, that's only one side of the debate, and your conclusion contradicts many of the points made by DivineEvil and myself. While you are entitled to your opinion, I would not consider your post a fair summary of this debate.

Hit Rate and Effective DPS vs. Power Efficiency

What if armor blocks provided innate punch/pierce resistance? Eg hull counts for 2 system blocks, standard for 3 and advanced armor counts as 4 system blocks. Then a double layer of advanced armor could completely stop a 7-punch cannon-cannon but wouldn't do much to stop a 70-punch cannon-pulse...

      The Planet Thread

Oh wow, and there I was thinking my 350 wide planet was huge! And yeah, I still haven't encountered this scary "planet lag" everyone talks about. Fingers crossed it won't be become an issue.

      The Planet Thread

We have an engine thread, a turret thread, and even a rail thread... So how about a planet thread? Here's a few shots of a power reactor I'm working on for my home planet: More to come as I build it, if people are interested. :)

      New Bobby AI setting: Asteroid

I also don't yet know if the Bobby AI has been set to aim at individual asteroid blocks... Yes they aim at SYSTEM blocks now... But what do they aim at if there are no system blocks on the entity?

      New Bobby AI setting: Asteroid

Ooohhh.... I did not know that! Okay, I have work to do! I made this thread because I had just hooked up my ship's salvage array to an inner ship remote for the first time (so I can toggle them instead of holding the button down) and thought "gee, would be nice if I didn't have to aim either".

      New Bobby AI setting: Asteroid

So... Now that the latest update has made it so AI aims at individual blocks and not the centre of mass.... What's stopping Schine from adding an 'Asteroid' targeting option to Bobby AI modules? It would have been silly before, as the salvage beams wouldn't have been able to hit the remaining...

Convergeing weapons make smaller ships useless.

Sorry, yeah, I meant rail turret axis... Idea being you could make a normal turret that has something like a 5 degree cone of fire, and instead of putting a Bobby AI into it, you could choose to wirelessly slave it to the core of your mothership instead. If you do this, weapon convergence...

Convergeing weapons make smaller ships useless.

Oh... Now that would be cool: It'd open up the possibility for people to recreate the convergence system with rail rotators: It becomes a player-solvable problem instead. I'm all for removing default mechanics and giving players the tools to figure things out themselves.

      Keeping the new players playing

Speaking for myself and a friend (both of us started within the last week, and have only played single player): We did not start in a faction, we had to create one ourselves, which we only did to stop our home planet from getting damaged by NPCs pirates (which actually did happen to me). What...

      Keeping the new players playing

Hrm... A "quick and dirty" way to achieve that would be to automatically start newbies in their own faction, and make that starting planet their faction home base.

      Keeping the new players playing

I think the biggest issue is that new players start homeless: If they lose their first ship before they settle on a station or planet, then it ends up feeling like they lost everything they had (yes, I know the inventory stays, but there is no guarantee that they've actually done any decent...

Keep controls relative to Core, not camera

When cycling through cameras, I would prefer it if my ships controls were not affected by the camera I happen to be looking through. In other words, I would like 'W' to always propel the ship in the direction the core is facing, regardless of what direction I happen to be looking in. The way...
