I don't expect shop modules to be available to ships, making stations more worth seeking out in that regard, but regarding trading there will be other options available.
Lol, we have planning docs on a fair few features of the game actually, I just don't usually mention that we actually have them. People just tend to assume we don't for some reason
For now you can save a blueprint then convert blueprint to design.
In the future any constructed ship in a shipyard will have a design come with it, to work with the Repair Docked from Design option in the shipyards.
Most likely we'll add in a Create Design from Docked however for repairs...

The issue is as it's a different shape it requires a new model rather than an existing one just with an altered orientation. It'd end up costing a block ID. While it's a good idea, it might be in the "not enough block IDs" basket until we're closer to game release and a lot of the final blocks...
I hadn't considered the crew experience on the duty station they're assigned to resulting in the bonuses they give improving, makes them a lot more valuable. I wonder if you could make the crew join your faction when you took over a ship through a boarding party.
