      Yes, you want asteroid dynamic physics disabled. My server was not even playable until I did that. (I'm not sure what the setting does, you can still move asteroids by pushing with a massive ship...)

      Did you alt-tab out at any point? I notice if I alt-tab out of the game to do something with a web browser, the game's FPS permanently drops to 1 - 5 when it regains focus and I have to restart the game.

      Doing this seems to have fixed NPC Factions on my server. One thing I noticed was unzip was not even installed on my server (Ubuntu 16.04 Server, bare-bones command-line install only). So maybe this step failed during initial world creation because of missing dependencies.

      Yes, I agree the default should change. I didn't know about the setting until players on my server complained that all the pirate ships were someone's unarmed starter mining vessel...

      I like cannon/cannon for small ship or turrets, anything larger will have either cannon/beam or missile/beam.

      I definitely don't want to see hunger, hunger is annoying and dealing with it can be grindy. In the future, perhaps some kind of farming/food mechanic that isn't required for survival, but is needed for NPC reproduction or city growth...but that's a different topic. I would like to see...

      I like it. It could be implemented as a separate game mode which is creative-only, no pirates, and gives you a sandboxed star system. (I chose system instead of sector so you can test jump drives there.) Additional options for enabling/disabling pirates, shops, other NPCs, planets/asteroids...
