Ya, testing seems to be leading to this.
It gets worse if you want to be able to install new generators by leaving a door out of the ship to the docking points.
Pity as I really liked the concept of docked generators being better than brute force as it led to more finesse in ship design.

It's a 20 player plan from Blue Fang - 1536Mb RAM. They've been great on a 7 Days to Die server, and again, we can have lots of players playing as long the three people in one faction don't all land on their home planet at once.
