      Best weapon for pirates are heat seekers, IMO. Try a stealth ship with some heatseeker arrays. Cloak in, fire off your heatseekers, recloak. If you time it right you won't even need shields as they'll never touch you (though have enough to live through a few seconds of attack just in case).
