Well the default Sensor on its own could act like it normally does. This way we we could have something like this and have what we currently have as well. :)
You can get that just fine without attacking people that don't want anything to do with PVPers no matter their intentions. Now if they shoot first that's their own problem.
A detachable warhead ram docked on it should work. The problem is hitting your mark multiple times and if you miss those turrets of your enemy's are going to invite you over for dinner. XD

As for the topic idea yes this'd be useful. Could make it so the input when docked is like it is now it causes the ship to undock, but while undocked it fires the docking beam and tries to dock if able.

I agree on the maps thing. An easy way to clear up some of the clutter is to make the stations for the AI and derelict spawn sort of like the ships for them do currently but the spawning system would check how many stations are the max limit per sector and also how many are in a given radius...
I've made some fixed direction turrets before and they seem to only like firing at what is in front of them. In the case of lock-ons I'd say it might not matter but a fast way to test is to make a simple missile launching turret barrel and spawn some fodder pirates.

Speed Build: This is where someone is given a shipyard with any amount of resources they need and have X amount of time to build a ship to go out to fight. No BPs allowed in this mode other than what the shipyards have been...
The only thing about transporters that needs to change is how they bring the shields down. Say make it so they are down for a few seconds based on some before and after transport Cooldown, than shields quickly regen to where they were minus any damage done while under fire. This would help both...
Seeing as you'd have to totally destroy every station and planet in just one SWD system, that by itself would take at least 4 hours.
That said how much it should hurt a faction not online to do anything. Maybe not as much as one that has someone online to do something but not sure.
Normally I put enough mass enhancers to cover the highest mass docked entity on the ship or station for the main entity, than enough mass enhancers on the bases of each turret to cover their barrels.
I would say Big Data Database but that's true Overkill at that point and it'd take too long to setup. As for how to make a SQL DB super fast I'm going to have to look that up again since I haven't been programming in a while.
I'd just use a SQLite DB and call it a day, different table for each of the needed information if additional tables are even needed. Than setup a super faster searching code and just sit back and watch. Does have some overhead but if setup right you only search it once or twice normally only...
