      Ok cool. Preview is really easy to resize images with. Open the image, press 'Tools" > "Adjust Size". Make sure Scale Proportionately is ticked. It will even give you the new file size before the change is made so you can make sure they are under 1mb :)

      @ToyotaSupra NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB. It's so old, it could just be a case of driver support or incompatible OS specific code, i don't know.

      It's not just intel graphics on OSX that can't use frame buffers. I have an nvidia card mine and they don't work. Schema is aware of the problem.
