Right, had a bit of a derp, there is a way to get within a sector, it's just so annoying to deal with figuring out which sector things around you are in that it's not worth bothering unless sectors are large.
On fixing beam-armed stick ships:
Rebalance weapons (beams are currently the only counter to sticks as well as countering every other kind of ship)
Beams should do way less damage than currently, to everything
Cannons should be the highest damage/energy and damage/block weapon, not beams, to...
Basically, instead of Battlestar Galactica-like jumping, more Star Wars-like hyperspace (as the visuals would suggest).
This would work as follows:
It takes a certain amount of time to go a certain number of sectors.
A minimap of the big map could show you changing sectors over time, and show...
Block IDs aren't a problem, but the amount of information in a block could be. It's better performance-wise for at least internally using different blocks.
That said, I would like to just be able to paint hull a different color, and without having to mine asteroids to get the paint.
Not just the chambers, jump drive too. There is 0 point in making us build a chamber to not hold down mouse click except to punish spinal mounts, which are already not the meta at all.
From the OP: "Please for the love of God have F to highlight an entity and ANOTHER button to SET ATTACK for...
Something to note here is that the Y-Wing in Star Wars canonically has a turret, but the Rebels never bothered with it because TIEs are so easy to destroy anyways and it'd need a dedicated gunner to be of any use (and at that point, why not just get something like the Millennium Falcon that can...
The point is there is no pressing need to create much of anything, and thus the game is without goals aside of "I want to build", which is not survival. The game might as well just be creative mode and ship fight mode.
A distinguishment between home and the outside centering on threats to survival, which is absolutely essential for survival-based play to feel correct.
If you want to see an extreme example, look towards Subnautica, where it's relatively easy to have your safe base and 4 hours in you'll be fully...
Minecraft had a pretty big playerbase while it languished in beta. It also had more things to do even in alpha than just build (hint: the name of the game).
StarMade needs to improve mining, crafting, NPC behavior, faction setup, and shelter.
Do note this is in reference to Vox2SM3, not SMEdit. I'm sure SMEdit is easier to fix, but I'm not sure where I can find its source code to actually go about debugging; can't do much with the jar, and in fact java doesn't give any output even in verbose mode about why it's silently failing...
WINE isn't the most reliable and Windows has a habit of killing itself every so many months. It might actually be a faster route for next time to just fix the source code so it isn't using Windows-specific ways to clean up files.
Actually, Space Engineers is a competitor to both StarMade and Skywanderers, due to having the smaller ship cubes for small ships and bigger ones for bigger ships. Space Engineers can have epic battles with ships of different sizes, as well as very detailed fighters.
Now, the issue is Space...
Linux, java is updated, tried 2GB. I've heard something about SMEdit creating folders when it first runs that need to be deleted, but haven't investigated. Ultimately, I had to rely on someone else running Vox2SM3 (it's Windows-only because of some incredibly poor design decisions).
Skywanderers right now is just lacking real ship systems and combat. The moment it gets those, it will surpass StarMade for small ships until the Universe Update (and likely again afterwards once it fleshes its own universe out). That said, StarMade's less intricate shipbuilding means it can...
