Put a Camera behind (or next to) your docker in the direction you want to dock. E.g. if you have a docker on the right side of your ship, put a camera next to it (facing right) and when you're in that camera the beam will fire to the right side, too. :)

True that, but it gets booted ASAP every time. So consider the NFD build server as an option ;)

Enhancers need energy in order to work. Besides this, the mass calculation was kinda bugged. Not sure if it got fixed by now. If not you will need a stupid large amount of Enhancers. :/

When can we expect the server to be updated?

I guess that are gyro ball turrets. Both docking axis are inside the little ball and the barrel rotates that way freely around the ball. AFAIK Crimson_Artist introduced those turrets.
