How do I make my character fly faster through space?

The fastest way to move outside of a core or a ship is to move diagonally, since the speed for strafing and moving forward is added together.

How do you create a reliable ship?

How many blocks did your ship have in it? If I knew the approximate figure, I'd be able to tell you how many of those blocks should have been shield blocks. I used to build under-shielded ships, too. But I quickly figured out that the ideal ratio of shields to everything else is from about a...

      Engine Porn

From a WIP: If you want even a modest 1:2 thrust ratio in a ship pushing a couple million mass, the engines need to be big. Very big. These put out 1,050,000 thrust versus 1,330,000 mass (and climbing). Instead of the big circular openings that most science fiction starships have, I wanted my...

      StarMade 0.185 Blueprint Meta Items

This is a step in the right direction. -It allow ships to surpass the credit cap (if you happen to have millions upon millions of blocks on you, I suppose), potentially allowing groups of players to construct kilometer-long supertitans from a blueprint. -It actually makes titans impressive...

StarMade 0.1836 New Tutorial and loads of fixes

Well, luckily for me, I have the ability to plan ahead. The tiny gap between these nacelles is, oh, about 9 x 39 x 319 meters, comprising a spare volume of roughly 112,000 blocks to a side. I'll be filling it in, now.

StarMade 0.1836 New Tutorial and loads of fixes

Have you ever had to refit the weapons and turrets on a ship that's over a million mass? No? Because that's what I have ahead of me right now.

StarMade 0.1836 New Tutorial and loads of fixes

The one thing I do like about this is that missile energy consumption is now vastly reduced. Before, a rather small array was consuming almost 900 million energy with each shot. Now, it's closer to half that amount.

StarMade 0.1836 New Tutorial and loads of fixes

The 1:1:1 ratio made a lot more sense than what we have now. It should be possible to preserve the even distribution of DPS between master, slave and effect systems while still maintaining the ratios we had before. I'm in the process of building a ship with a 309416/309416/309416...

      how thick is your ship?

For me, the thickness of the outer hull varies depending on the ship's design. My latest builds have placed all the interior compartments in an armored "cage", with component blocks like shielding used to fill the space between the inner cage and the outer hull, so there's always no less than...

StarMade 0.171 Salvage to Storage and more

"Salvage to Storage blocks" This... this is godlike.

Just a little experiment ( A missile Gatling Gun)

Very nice. When I saw how they added logic blocks, a "gatling" cannon based on a delay circuit was one of the first things I thought about doing, but didn't get around to it because I was busy with a whopper of a build and with work. This would be a good way to get a high fire rate out of a...

new basic block: 2x1 wedge block

Indeed, I love those long Lego wedges, too, but blocks that occupy more than one block's worth of space would probably mess with the format and optimization, causing blueprint sizes and the memory footprint of ships to balloon out of control.

      StarMade 0.157 (optimization & fixes)

And just like that, I breathed an audible sigh of relief. Refitting an entire 500-meter warship while it's still under construction is quite the chore, and selective erasure of blocks will make things so much easier. There are so many ways this could be used to quickly make different weapon...

      Default thruster mechanic (poll)

If I'm not mistaken, under the old system, thrusters used a similar calculation method to power tanks. It wasn't just the number of them, like shield blocks. They actually had to be physically connected to each other. When the switch was made to Box Dimensions, like reactors, I initially hated...

      [64x64] DirtySpace

Ooo, are those radiators? I like. Are there gonna be any decorative blocks that we can build mainframes/server racks out of? :D

      Small Status update

Hmm. That's odd. I've got an Intel Core i7-2600k, 16GB of RAM (8GB allocated to Starmade; higher than that might cause performance issues), and an EVGA GTX 670 FTW 3GB, and I have a stable framerate on a million-block build that I've been working on, even with 256 textures. Have you tried...

      Small Status update

That shouldn't happen. Is it an old blueprint? You might have to wait for the game to finish converting it to the new format, after which it should perform as normal. It can take a while. For a 16 million block super-ship, you might have to leave the game chugging away with the CPU pegged at max...

Small ship design discussion and showcase

One of my older gunship designs was the Fenrir, armed with two AMCs and one D1000: It was the ideal smuggler's ship. It had hidden storage chests that could only be found by actually removing a deck panel on either side.

      Scale Issues....

      The class system I use for naming combat ships is as follows: Mass - Class < 100 - Fighter < 250 - Gunship < 500 - Bomber < 2,000 - Light Corvette < 8,000 - Heavy Corvette < 20,000 - Destroyer < 55,000 - Frigate < 80,000 - Cruiser < 200,000 - Battlecruiser < 500,000 - Battleship <...

Thrust multiplier way, WAY, WAAAAAYYYY off.

Because of this bug, I\'m being careful to build thruster groups in such a way that they can be easily altered later on as necessary.
