it's called go afk for a few minutes while you leave a small ship cruising with a lvl 3 max speed chamber at max speed. Sure this is boring and takes a little while but if you're in an organized faction then that's another job to do and jobs make the game more immersive and it adds a new ship...
You lose some when you die anyways. A bit of code can be added which filters them, shouldn't take too much processing power. Also not all servers have the drop items on death setting enabled.

Another idea would be to move the player and a copy of the ship to a virtual sector as with the shipyard and maybe somehow update the ship in the "physical" sector
The "turn clipping back on" thing will make building your own ship a lot more difficult than it has to be and make it a lot less fun. Technically I'm not sure if clipping can be turned off for a specific entity without modifying a lot of the code which currently exists. I think a better solution...
Oh longer, no problem there. We can keep the bulk of the enhancers in the factory wing as planned I'm not sure how well the animated factpry components will fit though.
