StarMade Devblog - Endgame Document Pt. 3

Imperialism in a game with finite resources IS the game. If resources are unlimited there is no reason to fight, which is the current situation. No one fights over resources, only for fun. Starmade is not an MMO RPG. You are supposed to fight over territory. A more apt comparison would be...

StarMade Devblog - Endgame Document Pt. 3

Then don't recruit people who don't share your views or goals? This is basic shit, dude. This is what I am talking about when I say you are basing your opinions off failed public or effectively public factions. Jesus Christ, can you not read? I AM NOT OPPOSED TO SOLO PLAYERS. I AM OPPOSED TO...

Wow, most factions are bad? This is obvious to anyone, because only a few are well known. What is your argument? You claimed to not like factions because they are "drama filled and chaotic" with "no single drivingforce shaping the aesthetic," full of "people who are together just to get free...

StarMade Devblog - Endgame Document Pt. 3

You're pretty dense if you don't realize that these things are to allow massive factions to wage large scale war more effectively. Or do you think a single player can effectively order about a dozen mining fleets, two dozen patrol fleets, half a dozen bases in foreign allied territory, an...

StarMade Devblog - Endgame Document Pt. 3

How about doing any of those things in a way the leaders of the faction actually want? Where they want? NPCs cannot be relied on to do things effectively without player guidance, and this is a good thing. Player factions should not just be NPC factions with a player designing their fleet live...

Bruh are you serious I've played in 4 different factions across a dozen servers over the past 4 years. I've fought with or alongside dozens of different factions. I am telling you from my vast experience, WHICH YOU LACK, that any halfway decent faction has a unified aesthetic and a collective...

SP and MP require different balancing due to player counts. SP requires larger and more powerful NPC factions to accommodate for the lack of player factions, and cannot use any player-count related balance that would normally be present in MP to prevent the mass proliferation of one man...

Completely incomparable. PvP and PvE WoW were still both multiplayer on the same world. Single player is drastically different from MP because the only player is you. Separate balance is necessary. Said the man who has not once been a part of a remotely competent PvP faction. Take a look at...

Well, it currently handles up to the simultaneous AI limit (around 250 iirc) just fine. Most of the load on servers from battles seems to come from players requesting data. When the server does everything internally it isn't even remotely as laggy. And that's with no optimization to the system.

StarMade Devblog - Endgame Document Pt. 3

Well, to be more specific, the game has a function to let you load a sector and have AI fight in it without any players present. It isn't specifically for unloaded combat, it just happens to work well for it, and I think with a little optimizing it'd be very effective for this, especially with...

StarMade Devblog - Endgame Document Pt. 3

Well, what Tunk has told me is that the existing "unloaded combat" system just loads the sector for AI to fight in. Without players requesting tons of data from the server for this battle and because certain things don't need to be loaded, it's actually pretty low load on any halfway decent box...

StarMade Devblog - Endgame Document Pt. 3

You seem to be forgetting that the amount of useful territory is getting reduced to encourage conflict, and that controlling multiple systems will become a necessity. However, even in the current game, servers with reversed FP have a need for lots of territory and NPCs are just pointless bloat...

Classic mods, giving you points because you said some mean words to the Schine Defense Squad. Loving the hugbox. Uh, yes? You say that like it's a problem. It's already pretty obvious in the current game that SP and MP need different faction balancing, because MP has significantly less need...

"B-but what about muh single player???" Gee, I don't know, besides the fact that the universe pauses when you aren't playing, maybe there could be SEPARATE FACTION BALANCING for single player????? Use your brain, this should be obvious. I don't think being a solo faction should be impossible...

StarMade Devblog - Endgame Document Pt. 3

Why do you people continue to equate solo players with factions being maintained by a single person? They are not the same. I am not opposed to single players. I think the game has a lot of room to grow with solo builders and mercenaries and traders, but that is not the same as factions...

Capturing astronauts is stupid and annoying. Anyone with two braincells to rub together can make an inescapable cell. Make it NPC crew only if you're going to make something like this.

StarMade Devblog - Endgame Document Pt. 3

A "faction" being run by a single person would be as hard to maintain as a one man faction. This is good, inactive factions should die out. On another note, I've recently learned Starmade already has some limited "unloaded combat" which Tunk has been testing on his server box. It seems to work...

You can easily account for these variables. Why does it matter if a gun is facing backwards? It doesn't, because a gun facing backwards would probably be missiles anyway. Why should it matter if a turret is hiding inside a ship? It doesn't, it would have the same load on a ship either way. The...

I don't trust Schine to make a perfect AI that distributes my resources exactly the way I want to. I don't trust ANYONE to make an AI that can do that, because last I checked, I don't have a chip in my brain that lets an AI read my thoughts. Players should be able to control where their...
