Question: Do shootout rails count towards the total length? I don’t think I will exceed it but wanted to make sure. I tend to place pickup point for rails further away from the ship to make sure AI has a better change of docking.
I can agree with that. It's a certain amount of time commitment for a build this size. So I'm going a more traditional route that hopefully allows me to add the amount of detail I want in the time given.

No actual functionality but they do look awesome.
Not entirely make believe. The access hatches to the tech drones do give you control options for each engine pod as well.
The one near the cargo elevator is one that has no function whatsoever :D
At least the ones near the elevators let you navigate between floors if needed.
