      a FUNCTIONAL giant robot? like someone else mentioned you can do it but it will probably be worse than a normal ship since you don't have as much space to cram stuff into. Since the main ship can't inherit anything other than thrust from anything its docked to it probably wouldn't be stronger...

      id be all for a ball joint of some sort. 'we can do it already' sure..with like 6 blocks minimum, and if you're willing to sacrifice looks on smaller builds with SM's 1 block = 1 meter. giving them a full range of motion would probably make turret axis blocks redundant, though

      Im not sure if I understand you but you should be able to sit in a seperate entity, shift to another, exit, and still be sitting in the spot you were beforehand. I have a fighter whose cockpit is seperate from the actual ship and it's worked fine for me without any issues.
