Recently, I was in some rather intuitive creation discussions with a fellow writing enthusiast. the person I was talking with understandably wishes to remain anonymous. So I will respect that wish now and make no more mention of his identity.
Amway, this babel all has a real point. when we were talking, we started to go through all our favorite written works, and then began to analyze how, and specifically why, they were created. In our discussion case this took on the specific genera. the Science Fiction Genera. We began to look at not only the books on the subject form, but also all of the other medium of the modern world. Films, of the early 70's led us to the most obvious of franchising choices. Then we started to go through the history of things in those eras.
This got really interesting till we came to the early 90's. This is when we had a new medium which I don't really think anyone really had considered analyzing in the way we did before, Video Games. It is in fact, the same form of art like any creative medium. It is in itself, an entertainment genera, unlike any that has come before. It is interactive in ways that no other form of entertainment has ever been before. So we began to really look at it like the films and books and other things the same way. We looked at it as a canvas to paint on.
Video Games, are made in a very similar way, as to how books and films are made. They all start with an idea. That idea grows into a visual representation of that idea. which then develops into the finished product the same way as any other art form.
So this is where the point comes to mind, Analyze StarMade. lets pick it apart look at how and why things work and see how awesome and smart Scheema really is. because lets face it he is brilliant, like the George Lucas of the Video Game medium, He has created something that in fact is our Star Wars. What he has created, is a game in total balance with how we like to use it. That is in fact a very impossible dream. A game that fills all the needs of the player but still lets them create with it, is something very few game designers get to do these days. That is what StarMade is.
I think we need to look at that, and think about whats going on with it right now, just as importantly, as much as we do, with where it is going in the future. Clearly that is exactly what Scheema is also doing. He is creating this new Intergalactic Council thing to let us interact with him and his team, in order to set out exactly what it needs to do next. That is a new approach that I've not seen any other game designer do before. He's letting us, make decisions on how the game continues to develop. so where will this go and where will this lead? Well that is also exactly why I'm posting this. To do discussions on what how and when that needs to happen. timing of this is the key now is the perfect time to take a step back and look back at where we've come, this game has developed in the years, so now is a good time to look at it and think, where can it go next?
Ill be posting further comments on this as I see fit to do so, but it really is a fascinating thought. To look at this game as a form of art, is just so much more rewarding than other games out there.
