    Hello All

I decided to try Starmade again today, I last played it around January this year.

I had a server which my friends and I would play on occasionally. Here's what I'd do:

    Open Starmade-Starter
    Select Start Dedicated Server
    Open Starmade-Starter
    Select Play
    Join the local host server
    Play

I downloaded the new launcher and doing the above now takes me to a totally different world. I'm not where I used to be and none of my stuff is there (Including a planet sized spaceship it took me several months to build).

I removed the new launcher and went back to the old one but the same thing happens, it just launches a new server.

Nothing has changed since I last played starmade. I can't find the server files anywhere (not even sure where to look honestly). No hard drive changes no file deletions except steam games etc.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I seriously don't want to lose months of progress.

Did you backup the existing database during the update process? If you did, the old universe is in a zip file in the StarMade directory.

Many, many things have changed since you last played. Your ship would most likely need a complete refit of it's internal systems so the weapons and shields work.

Starting a 'sandbox' game does the same thing as you opening the launcher twice. Single player 'sandbox' starts a server, then connects to it. Other players can connect to your 'single player' universe from other computers on the LAN or Internet (if port forwarding is all correct in your router setup).

I didn't back it up, I didn't realise that updating it would wipe my servers. Thanks for the tip with "sandbox".[DOUBLEPOST=1413457615,1413456519][/DOUBLEPOST]So essentially there's no way to discover where it was or recover it?

check for a Zip file in your starmade folder named "backup-Starmade*lotofnumbers" take the newest one unzip and copy the serverdatabase and the server.cfg to your starmade folder (replace the one that is there!).

If there is no zip file ... i am sorry!

When there is a total reset of your world,
and you did not change anything,
you possibly had the former launcher in a different place.

I had no issues with that so far, and still have an installation that runs every single dev-build since 0.9x times.
Never lost the universe in total. (some ships got corrupted yes, turrets undocked in some version, but no full dataloss)

Possibly search for log.txt.0 on your system, there may be another folder containing the old universe.

    Hi

I have nothing inside the starmade folder itself (which newly appeared on my desktop) I do however have Starmade-build_20141014_042802 just on my desktop. I tried to unpack it and it says it's corrupted. Also it appears to be dated two days ago so no idea.[DOUBLEPOST=1413461560,1413461526][/DOUBLEPOST]

    Thanks

Both launchers were on my desktop. I deleted the old one and put the new on there because a popup told me to. I since moved the new one elsewhere and restored the old one and it still doesn't take me to my world.

Search for Starmade on your harddrives ... maybe you can find your old install that way!
The new Launcher lets you decide where you want the game to reside. Thats under "Options ->Installation Settings"
