    About
This is a brand new, open and very active server (we're currently the top server in the browser). The classic StarMade that everyone enjoys with PvP enabled plus very few rules on building. Just play and enjoy.

We have capacity for over 1000 players and host servers on our own powerful hardware which should ensure as lag free a server as possible. We've been hosting server just like this one for years.

    Who are we?
We're a friendly and long running gaming community that have been around for over 6 years, we're just returning to StarMade after being away from about 3 years. We play a good variety of games from FPS to stratagy and host community game nights at least every month.

Come join the community, we're more than just a StarMade server. We have a website and have several other servers including a Mumble one for voice chat (see below).

    Mumble
We're hosting a public Mumble server for everyone to talk on, you're welcome to join if you'd like.

    Rules
    Don't Be A Dick
Really the most important rule, obey Wheaton's Law quite a simple rule. This same rule applies throughout the entire community.

    No Random Killing and Griefing
PVP is allowed on this server but don't go about randomly killing and picking on people, engage in war on a grand scale for a good reason, if someone wants to build let them build. No picking on the smaller people.

You will only be banned for major infractions of this rule but beware you will always incur the wrath of the larger factions for breaking this rule.

    Keep Spawn Clear
Spawn is a protected area for a reason, keep it mostly clear of ships and absolutely don't kill people around it. Go find your own place, there is a whole galaxy out there.

Come join us on a brand new StarMade server, only started a couple of days ago so join and experience it while the universe is still fresh.

    IP: starmade.thesentinelalliance.net:4242
Or just search "The Sentinel Alliance" on the server browser

Considering the last server I played on with this rule ended up with certain admins with alternate "player" accounts (with admin powers) griefing trolling and abusing players regardless of this rule (that they themselves put in place), what reassurances and proof can you provide that this will not be the case on your server (or any variation of it)?
Your join date of today does not inspire confidence in me.
No trolling - genuine query and concern.

Hey Sachys, thanks for the reply.

Regarding the first concern we don't allow any admins to spawn in ships or cheat and all our staff have been with us for a while, you can be sure that we won't go about abusing players. Come talk to us on Mumble if you want, all of the staff are friendly.

As for the second I only just created this account to link to my main StarMade registry account, here is a picture from that to prove we've been around for a while.

how do you propose to prevent it? the guys i mentioned werent allowed either. didnt stop them, and of course, logs were never kept.
    hence i ask for reassurance.

    default configs =/
We've changed quite a few of the config options like disallowing importing of ship blueprints to prevent people spawning in OP ships and we're always open to other suggestions, we're not running default configs.

Though we haven't yet added any new cool custom NPC factions like other servers have or massivly changed to game like restricting the ship mass cap like the Minimade server. The first we hope to add later the second is what we mean by classic, we won't be massivly changing the game like that.

i suppose i misspoke when i said default configs. i was mainly referring to sector size. your max speed coupled with your sector size will cause problems in combat. im curious what you mean by "not allowed to upload op ships" though... do you have a specific criteria for what you can use here? a mass cap might be a good idea, athough not drastic like minimade... you know, 10 million mass sips destroy servers n all =D

Like I said we've been around for a while so we have the luxury of apointing only mods we can really trust and have been with for years instead of random new people. We trust the staff and we hope you will too.

If anyone does see admins abusing people we're happy for it to be reported here and to discuss it in public, we won't hide anything and we will take every action we can to make sure no staff abuse people.

Thanks for the luck but I'm not sure how I can possibly address it more, to a certain point it is always going to be down to trust in this. In direct answer the reassurances I can provide that this will not be the case on any sentinel alliance servers is:

    1. We only choose trusted staff that have been around in our community for years, some since the inception of the community 6 years ago. Not new people eager for power that may abuse that power.
    2. We will never ignore any alligation of abuse posted here and are happy to discuss it in public.
    3. Though I’m not sure what the server logs could really prove we would be happy to provide logs surrounding any abuse allegations. I’m the only person who can delete the main server logs so they wouldn’t suddenly disappear.
    4. We currently have very few admins, though there are lots ready to take up the reigns if necessary most are for now just reporting things onto me for me to deal with.
    5. No staff are allowed to spawn in any ships at all so it would be very easy to detect if they did. And as for alt accounts I am the only person for can assign admins and will be keeping it that way, no one can suddenly make an alt account and admin it.

To clarify to just disallow all uploading of blueprints from server to client in order to prevent people just spawning in other peoples OP ships, just to make people work to build their ships so it takes time to make an OP one.

Thanks for the suggestions though, we will look into max speed and sector size, as well as a large mass cap.

you dont get it. "not allowed" does NOT MEAN "cannot". FFS, i have zero faith in your ability right now. secondly, you have still NOT adressed any concern with a positive answer. far as Im concerned, your server is meatspace.
dont bother replying again unless you can organise. thanks!

theyre under no obligation to meet any of your expectations, and although youve said youre not trolling, all of your responses have been hostile in nature and honestly i wouldnt expect any of them to cater to your shit. if you dont trust them, dont play there.

We have no blueprints in the server that have been downloaded, all ships on the server are legit. Unless you want us to send all of our logs in the past week I don't know what we can do to prove it to you. Feel free to look through the blueprints.

The only one in the "admin faction" who has the ability is Sentinel due to him being the owner. Moderators do not have the ability.
Ill be honest with you we have people in our faction who may fall to spawning in items but they will not and do not have the ability to do so.

The best I can say is think about it logically. Some of us have been around for a while too.
    Have a nice day.

Many established player factions would not be interested in a server that forbids them from uploading thier own designs. Sure, they could build server specific vessels for use but overall it's an unacceptable imposition to most players.

We hear you NaStral and after a discussion with some of the server people and staff we've decided to allow uploading blueprints as long as we allow blueprints to be purchased with components only. Thanks for the suggestion, I think you make a fair point people shouldn't be blocked from using their own ships.

Also based on other feedback we're increasing sector size, increasing adv build area to 30 and asteroids now regenerate daily. We will also later likely add a very high mass cap. Thanks for the feedback everyone and we'll always remain open to it.

Personally, I'd like to inquire how high that "very high" mass cap would be.
I know a lot of people can't exist without their several million block super-capitals, neither can they forego the "if it doesn't work, just add more blocks" build philosophy. For that reason, implementing any kind of mass limit would probably scare away some players, but in my honest - and often disputed - opinion, they scare away the players who'd wreck your server with their obscenely oversized monstrosities. Speaking of player experience, regarding the recent events on the Brierie server for example (They have no limit - they've been crashing every hour for the last couple days)
A mass limit is necessary in the current state of the game. For the server's sake and for the sake of keeping the game interesting (ever tried to pilot a 500K+ mass ship against another similar sized vessel? It's a turret match-turn-slugfest where turning one ship around takes 2 full minutes. And god forbid they collide, because then good bye server.) and at a level of playability. There was a good reason the Starside Blood and Steel PvP tournaments were kept at a 12K mass limit. Take that into consideration, and maybe even do some testing what the server's hardware can still handle. Keep the 1:1 Star Destroyers and Battlestars to the build servers.

I agree with the previous post, sounds sensible. The limit should be discussed though, with some of the staff and a few experienced Starmade players. I want this server to be a good, constant and fair server, and input through the experienced community is paramount to this goal. So any more suggestions to make this server the model Starmade server are super welcome :) . I am in no way official, just a visionary ;). I think we all want a decent, good server, so please help us create that.

So, apparently server staff decided that blueprints are OP and they are not allowed on. Reason: Because some players brought OP "overclassed" ships to the server to "destroy newbies" and disabling blueprint upload apparently protects new players from getting wrecked by more experienced players and their OP vessels they "spent years to build".

I think it only encourages the use of fast-built, no-aesthetics doombricks instead, because who's gonna spend weeks on a survival server to build a single well detailed, decent looking inside and outside ship from scratch? No one, at least not before they gather the mats with hastily put together brickships for each role, and maybe AFTER they wrecked who they wanted to, and mined what they wanted to, they will start fiddling with detail. And those who want to grief, will grief in doombricks anyway, because they don't give a damn about looks, only the kills.

What it does prevent though, is casual players who don't have 8 hours a day to spend building new ships for each server, coming to this one. So there will be the total newbies, the no-lifers and the griefers.

But hey, that's just my opinion.

Yes we did a little after a big incicent with some greifers uploading on very very large ships, 20+ times larger than everything else on the server.

I think it only encourages the use of fast-built, no-aesthetics doombricks instead, because who's gonna spend weeks on a survival server to build a single well detailed, decent looking inside and outside ship from scratch? In part I agree, I was the one who decided to go back on our original choice to disallow blueprint uploads after all but I changed that after our incident and near unanimous vote to disable blueprint uploads again later.

    On the other hand:
    • New Content - None of the same cloned ships, no templates means entirely new content for the server. And that's what we've seen, there arn't millions of doombricks flying about, the ships I've seen are well made and original. I don't think I'm unfair in saying that.
    • Limits Hacked Blueprints - There is no chance of hacked blueprints when server uploads are off, sure it's only one attack vector and there are already some protections against it but still helps.
    • Stops OP Ships - I can't stress more how OP some of the ships that the greifing factions have been working on for years are. Sure, doombricks exist but it takes a long time to build a big ship with support systems, logic, turrets, etc.
    • Makes Moderating Easy - If everyone can upload blueprints its very hard for us find and delete every single instace of those blueprints if they're being used to greif. Whereas if everyone actually has to spend a little time building their ship (even the doombrick people) we can stop them.
This I think counts as a point of contention, not everyone is going to agree with our decision and we're still listening to people that don't (respond to this post if you, we will switch if there is a significant consensus or other good points) but we're going to keep with our choice to disallow blueprints for now.

Personally, I'd like to inquire how high that "very high" mass cap would be.
Thanks for the suggestions, we will be adding a pretty high mass cap but will be testing like you said based on server power.
