Recently, the devs have added the possibility to have the game enforce ship sizes or mass. Since then, I've been wondering whether a baby-sized ships only server could be popular.

I'm thinking about a server with a pretty low block or mass restriction. Think about 30k blocks max and/or 3k mass max for ships and about 10 times bigger stations.
The basic idea is that such low sizes would make building a PvP-capable ship faster and more manageable. Besides, since the time invested in building is decreased, we could experiment with some config and/or balance changes that would otherwise deter people from playing because their titan/dreadnought/whatever would only be usable on a specific server.

For instance, a couple ideas :
    - buffing power capacitors and/or nerfing regen + decreasing thruster consumption
    - buffing switched off power auxiliaries
    - buffing pulse radius (if this doesn't cause too much lag)
    - reducing armour weight and/or changing their armour/HP/AHP values
    - modifying passives so that they give greater bonuses but at a much higher energy cost so that you can't afford to run them all the time
I'm not saying that each of those modifications should be present in an hypothetic baby-sized server, maybe none of them would be satisfactory, I'm just giving examples of what could be done.

What do you think ? Would you be interested ?
Do you think this is a good idea ? Would you play on such a server ?
Would you prefer vanilla configs over some balance changes attempts ? Maybe only some specific ones ?

I refuse to conform to your voting system, maaan.

Anywho, I think this would be interesting, but only if by mini you mean capping ship mass at something like 10k or higher.

Are you meaning like a creative/PvP server, or like a survival server, but with really tiny caps? lol

I was mostly thinking of a server with the few survival elements starmade currently has to offer (mostly pirates as big and agressive as we can get... well, they probably have to be within the cap too, I'm not sure, if not it could be interesting to have them exceed the cap a little) and the occasional PvP. No creative mode if that's what you're asking by "creative"... although with such small ships it shouldn't be very hard or long to gather the necessary resources anyway.

i like the idea, but i think 3k is a bit extreme on the small end. 5k or 10k seem like more evenly rounded numbers and open up some design choices.

I thought about this too, but with my miniature (and I do mean miniature) ships I build in mind... Like... a whole miniature server.
Where all the ships and stations are build to appear like 1:5 or 1:10 scale.

though a server with just a small size cap, and not necessary miniature ships would be cool too

I'd say 20k max for a "mini server" myself, but thats me

Edit: this would allow such a server a good variance in designs (including "damage tanks" and the likes) without too many config changes, but also, I was thinking of stations being limited to this as well.
Hell, i dont build titans, but my standard miner is 12k due to the array.

At the very least, it would be quite interesting.
I don't really play on servers, but this concept might just lure me out of hiding.

Laughing.png Considering I can't really build anything massive before it starts looking boxy (or potentially suggestive ), this sounds pretty welcoming!

I'd definitely be interested to try this out and really see the implications of it playing out in both the short and long term. With such a low ceiling, people would be forced to innovate rather then bloat up which has generally been the instinctual thing many SM players with a more competitive mindset will often do.

There are a lot of pitfalls straying too far from vanilla, minus some clear improvements to quality of play such as increasing sector size.
The further you stray from vanilla, the more you'll be unable to accommodate ships people have made elsewhere, or in in single player.

Definitely an interesting thought and one i've thrown around a bit myself (even hosted once or twice for short whiles)
If it garnered some interest I'd surely be down to spend some time there, I doubt major config edits would be needed to facilitate perfectly good small ship combat.
Power capacitors & Armor might be good places to look at first due to the low volume and relatively high surface area of ships this size, as with 30k blocks they'd both be much more risky investments than with the usual hundreds of thousands+
Best to aim low and adjust for effect with this, than accidentally make something OP and have to take it away from people later.

you would need to make a generic fighter first and then scale everything after that :u
but it would be really cool to have a "mini" server like that

I like this. I like this a lot. Especially since that mass range is where I specialize :D Although I'd personally raise the limit to about 5k mass rather than 3k, to have a few more ship designs included without making things too big or powerful.

If you need pirates and/or default ships, feel free to use any of mine that fit the size range.

If this server becomes public any time soon, I'll make sure I get there quick. FEEL THE WRATH OF CORVETTESPAM.

If you do that block count limit I am the first to join. Ofcourse there will be tousand trolls posting here, who say that they want to play with their big ships. Please quickly learn to ignore those. =)

At first I thought you meant it would be limited to just a 3 by 3 by 3 system cube(see-firepit server), but I really like this idea. I would play.
Frankly trying to figure out viable designs withinta 3x3x3 cube would be very interesting, perhaps for another day though.
