At the moment it is only relevant for AI ships, as far as I know. When making ships for a custom AI faction, you would save them with certain roles and then set the config up to spawn those roles as part of fleets.

Has anyone seen NPC's ally with each other/your faction/declare war?

I've seen scavengers and trade guild go at it once and im pretty sure it was just because of a friendly fire incident. Never seen any offers to ally or alliances between NPC factions. They only seem to reactively declare war vs players
That is dependent on the faction's faction config, I think, but by default they will only declare war reactively.

Wonder if there's a way to make a really aggressive faction that will attack you just for simply existing?

I know the config is under /data/npcFactions although I have no idea what each part of the different values do. Can't tell if positive or negative is good or bad and what the numbers are going to do yet. >_> Guess I'll just screw with the numbers until the game tells me to F Off. :-p

I tried starting war with the Scavs and Trading Guild by getting the Scavs to attack me while sitting on a Trade ship. They just shredded the Trade ship and nothing happened. Mind you, it could because I spawned the trade ship and not the faction. I didn't think that would matter. I'll try spawning something from a different faction.

Asked Lancake, and he mentioned this value:

    <DiplomacyStartPoints>500</DiplomacyStartPoints>

I guess if you set this negative, then they will automatically be at war to start with. If I understand correctly, by default they will go back towards zero if you aren't actively fighting them, though, so you will have to change more values to ensure that that doesn't happen.

Anyone else noticing a massive lag spike any time the other factions trade with you?

Also noticing that the other factions buy and sell prices are rarely set in the shop menu when accessed through the trade menu. >_>

I've been noticing I haven't been able to trade with them but they can trade with me and if I have enough blocks in my shops I can get rich fast. Planning on filling a whole system with shops just to watch the game break. :) Got over a billion credits from one shop with it having been filled with the /shop_restock_full command. Not much of a test but if my calculations are correct a good sized auto factory and a steady stream of resources should allow for a massive amount of credits fast.

Also it brings up the issue of the Datatypemax being where it is and the devs might want to change to a larger datatype like the one they use of weapon stats or something since credit values will skyrocket under good trading. A player will have to set new shops down just to get more credits.
