Portal Guns in Starmade?

    With a bit of fixing, You can easily get it fixed up and be able to go thru a portal and come out another portal in a whole nother system or galaxy

    Ok, Also one thing I want to note is that the Warp gates and Jump drives take forever to set up properly and could potentially not work in the end after you finished making one or the other, but in the game portal, there is no limit to where and how far the portals are from each other
    Which is exactly why the would be op. It's a single divice, avalibe from game start, that allows instaint transoprtation to any previously vistied location, in the universe. Set up some warp gates if you want to go faster.

    He wants "free multi-sector teleporters" to what you can shoot from your position.
    Teleporters you don't have to setup.

    Makes TPs obsolete except for selecting enclosed interior-rooms.

    you say your a portal fan but you completely missed his joke about portal there too D: for shame! jokes aside something like this does not fit into this kind of game well at all. The reason we have warp gates and jump drives to do (almost exactly the same thing as the portal gun) all of our long distance traveling is it is a plausible means of transport in space, but also fits the type of game the devs are trying to make. The portal gun fit into portal so well because it was a puzzle game, a tool to make a puzzle more fun and interesting to keep you engaged to the game. It dident need to be plausible because the lore was directed towards improbable forms of science, comedy and puzzle solving, not towards space travel and building.

    There is a difference?

    But still, isn't it possible to insert the desired behaviour with "warp to sector" and "jump to position in current sector" commands once you have extracted sector+position from the game? It doesn't need to be put into the original/default game.

    You know, portal guns would be really silly, but it would be neat to have a short-range portal gate as an alternative to transporters. It could even be able to interconnect with transporters, and have essentially the same function and limitations, but work as an aesthetic alternative. (Perhaps it could allow ships to go through, though, if the endpoint is also a portal gate and not a transporter pad.)

    Ok, what if this protal-gun makes it in, but you require admin commands to use it?

    Oh wait! The portal-admin command already exists!
    I wonder if there is a way to print a target's position to STD:eek:ut. Then you can easily write a shell-script to parse that data and insert your admin commands into STD:in.
    (Standard input/output of a program).

    With this, server admins set up Warps before the official Warp-Gates where implemented.
    And the game has a jump command to get close to an object behind your cursor.
    Well the portal gun allows people who are lazy to go anywhere they want, So technically its not an admin tool, Its just something for those who want to use it in their survival world

    Technically, the portal gun is a long range gun, As in Portal 2, you kill wheatly by firing a portal onto the moon after corrupting him and then that's the end, Also portal guns are long range at that term

    Unless if they aren't the admin on the survival world of theirs, Meaning the Portal gun is better and also allows you to travel from planet to planet in just a few seconds without any loading screens and the portal also loads the area for you

    Well, Still, People who like portal should have a portal gun mod installed
    You should have put this thread in mod suggestions and not suggestions for the game itself then.

    With my sincere apologies for bumping this thread- Because it's bloody ridiculous, in every way, shape, and form. You are in, all seriousness, suggesting the most overpowered tool imaginable, with the only argument that it would, indeed, be a powerful tool. Thus, I concur. Seriously, stop.

    But please only floating cubes with Portal-Game-textures. Perhaps in one or the other a Player is trapped (The Friend-Cube thingy).

    I think a portal gun (even overpowered) would be good because it makes admin stuff easier to use.
    But it should be locked to an admins DaveNA.

    After explaining his desire and waiting for the thread be let shut down. (page 1 mid)
    After telling that it can be done mod-side and even now (page 1 bot)
    After reminding about it can be done mod-side (page 2 near top) and questioning the difference between Portal 1, 2 and 3
    After making clear that I want it to stay available for admins as long as it is that op

    What do you expect?
