lol you're not going to tell me what I believe or not mr smart, why do you think the name of the thread is damage pulse is useless? What I was asking for is a proof of how effective it is compared to a real weapon.
Note the magical word "according". Your exchange with Nighthawk_77 made it look like you question or dont believe his "make a specialised pull system" statement, and thats what i provided an answere for.

Nah, Damage Pulse has only 0.5 DPS per Weapon Block, compared to most weapons 5 DPS. The option to use it combined with pull weapons is there and works, and thats what you didnt believe according to your exchange with Nighthawk_77. If its effective or powerful, is another question.
It can be effective and powerful...if you want proof please come on the TS server voice.elwyneternity.com in the next 3 hours.

Of course it can be powerfull, but that doesnt change the fact that another weapon of equal size would have 10 times the DPS, except Missile-Pulse. Simple math :P

I actually like to use Damage pulse slaved to Damage Beam to make Seige lasers as it increases the time the Damage Beam actually fires with a tradeoff for increased and constant power useage.

As a slave, yes :p The pulse itself though serves barely any space-battle functions right now. However, it does excel at these two:

    - Flushing ship interiors free of astronauts (and future creatures)
    - omgwtfbbq nice thruster effects

I think if its range were increased it could be used as a last resort suicide/super weapon at the cost of massive power requirements.

Example being if a Titan or capital ship were surrounded and about to fall, one could trigger this damage pulse wiping out or disabling ships that are within range, but would require a massive amount of power and possibly harm the ship using it. I think combined with an ion effect the disable part could become devastating to a fleets operations.

Another idea would be for an 'electronic warfare' useage on smaller craft using the same principal but to a less deadly effect.

Not really effective enough ATM. And what's the point if I can just spam missiles instead, saving space and creating a much more foolproof weapon?
That just makes it sound like missiles need to be nerfed.

Even once they fix the bugs, damage pulse will still be underpowered because of the limited range and damage.

They do, but even if/when they are, they are still ranged weapons with an AoE on hit. A lot easier to use than having to try and grapple someone with pull beams and then hit them with a rather untrustworthy pulse weapon.

    EDIT: Whoa, dupe post.

Damage pulse is not useless with...mech fight:cool:
Fair enough, but if I bring my corvette to your mech fight I think you're screwed. It's bringing a knife-shaped gun (See my faction topic; the Kalen-Miris looks like a stabbing weapon and has things like pulse beams) to a fistfight. :p

I have used damage pulse as a defensive weapon. I use them in combination with area triggers to make security systems that kill intruders of space stations and ships. This is basically the only use I have found for them so far.

I just tried it out. A tiny fighter with Tractor Beams and Pulse weapons.

It didn't work out very well, even in a fight with no shields and a speed limit of 30m/s.

The pulse literally could not hit the target if we moved at all.

There is a server setting which allows weapons to be fired with the current speed of the firing ship.
Idk if this works for pulse or not though, since using pulse as a weapon isn't something you do if you're looking for any kind of efficiency.

Doesn't work with Damage Pulse as far as I know; that's a different system and I'm assuming that currently there's not even a way programmed in for pulse bubbles to move.

What do you mean pulse is useless? Missile-pulse and cannon-pulse are very useful! :p
(Actually, I'm not so sure about missile-pulse with it low speed.)
