When the old alliances still held, the Galactic Imperium used the Raptor as its "default" fighter for keeping the peace. It was designed as a no-frills, simply utilitarian craft. Fast, maneuverable, and with dual laser cannons it gets the job done. An entire fleet comprised of these vessels stands to be more than a mere nuisance.
