This project gives you the templates and layout needed to make an elevator (or train/shuttle) using easy to duplicate blocks with very compact and easy to layout logic. To make this a train instead of an elevator you are really only changing the rails plane of motion and modifying the carriage.
I would have loved to make a video of this for you but honestly I lack the awesome skills Bench has (though if you want to make a video you can use this template as your example).
The controls on the elevator send it up and down the rail by wireless signals to the top and bottom receivers. Those change the rails direction and start the car moving. I may make a more advanced version to stop at the next floor in a follow-up posting.
At each floor there is a 'call' button to bring the elevator/train to your location. This system will work with any number of floors or stops, there is no problem varying distances between stops as each one has self contained logic.
The entire project is documented with display screens to tell you what is happening and why. As you can see the 'expanded' construction lets you see how things are built and routed but you can move things together to make it into a column 3x3 and as long as needed.
Each floor/stop has a variation in colour scheme. This allows you to copy an area as a template for easy replication in your project. Each station only requires 4 connections to become active: Rail UP, Rail Down, Reset from bottom and Reset from top.
Don't be intimidated, there are only 3 parts, TOP, BOTTOM and each Floor/Stop (plus the elevator/train carriage).
