I like the pivot-block idea the best out of all of these.
This would make it more difficult to install triaxially-rotating turrets that can turn in any direction, but could also make \"turrets\" (Turrets with BOBBY units set to \"ship\") mounted onto large swingarms that flip around the ship, and can reach out to point-blank nearby ships, quite useful. Pivot blocks would also allow turrets to sit flush with their parent ship.
Also, if the piston-blocks were implemented, it would allow deployable elements on ships such as retracting doors (Strictly for visual effect) that could be used on shuttle bays/hangars.
