I also noticed this as well as ai controlled fleets will avoid the center of system like the plague(had my station in the center of sector and had to move it)

I agree, but I think there needs to be a universal minimal ambient light. (Preferably server-configurable)
Not because of realism (distant stars don't really provide that much light), but just because of standard SciFi media cinematics.
Keeping everything realistically dark makes things boring and difficult to use.

Also, if everything's as dark as it *should* be, well, colors become kind of pointless, don't they? There's not a lot of light out by Neptune or Pluto, and they're (relatively speaking) close to the Sun compared to most locations in SM (Because a sector at the edge of a system with a star like the Sun SHOULD be approximating a distance of almost 2 light-years from its star...and that doesn't even take into account the differing sizes of solar systems based on larger stars)

Still, void space should be dark.
Ideally light levels (and colours) would be determined by stars in the vicinity, but that may or may not be worthwhile to implement.
In my opinion a void system one or two systems away from the closest star could have noticeably reduced lighting, but in the void between galaxies, or between arms of the same galaxy, space should be very dark.
And a server-side setting would be much appreciated, to keep things equal between players on the same server.
