Of course there would be security for those areas, that information is just a general guide

You're assuming I will make it available for download. With ships that is definitely the modus operandi, ut this station...? people might have to come and visit the server to experience it themselves - it certainly wouldn't be suitable as a random trade/pirate/derelict station
Sorry for thinking you'd share your art freely like that and to "random" purposes

I totally understand the feeling :)

@Orphaniel you really make me jealous of that building skills of yours.
Specially since you keep making awesome stuff and I keep getting stuck :P

Further idea development (please to not be stealing)

    RACECOURSE

I've ruminated upon the racecourse idea and have worked out an implementation. The station will have a good number of transit ways designed for cores and very small ships, these all shall connect where possible - it will be a confusing warren for the uninitiated but that's ok. Each intersection will have a small control center to one side from where logic can be controlled which will close up certain passageways and light up arrows and no-go symbols as needed to direct racers; this way, the rapid transit system becomes a configurable racetrack! yay!

Now the next part is the clever bit, though will need a little bit of testing to find the best exact balance. Race vehicles will be limited to one power block (or few, if one is not enough) the idea is that even thrust must be carefully metered; they must be a certain mass, with most of it being decorative to weigh the racer down. Along the track there will be strips of power drain beams, power transfer beams and even stop beams, A harmless slab of blocks will be docked opposite them to stop the beams from scything across the station until it's 500m termination (none of the beams will do damage, so the docked blocks ofarmor will not be at risk, even so, thiswill probably be set as faction home) - these will be activated by logic too - simply turned on or off for the race as desired.

None of the above has been tested, but I foresee no great issues. the only problem is that the racetrack relies on much of the station to be complete to provide the content - don't want it to be a boring race.

If anyone familiar with logic wants to ruin my ideas because it doesn't work the way I think it does, please do so after the beep.

    Beep.

You might run into an issue with logic where certain blocks can only be toggled by one input. Plan ahead, because if you have a light on the ground that needs to be used for two different guide arrows, you'll need to link them to an activation block before placing. Then you'll just need a couple of and/or blocks to set it up properly. If you ever need help with logic or interior design, shoot me a message.

Good to know, I sorta assumed it would work that was in my mental brain-musings.

I have not been idle, here's a little bit of extra I've added.

Most notably is the archive. (the red part to the top-right of it in the picture is a large dock where another faction can build their own embassy)

Side view of the Archive, as it stands now, it still needs some bells and whistles, I admit it took longer than it probably should have.

Here is the inside lower area. There is the service desk in the back and areas to work and collaborate in pairs or larger groups.

A view deeper into the building, on the left you can see the restricted Data-processors.

The data processors and shelving, next to annexes for individual work.

The back room with closed-file information storage.

The walls and floor are supposed to be white marbled with some fancy expensive gold or some such. Does it look ok? you tell me.
The big glass tower serves no purpose at present, but will probably contain the office for the Arch-Archivist or some thing.

Now onto the next arbitary segment. Maybe an apartment complex, or a accessway station

You probably need to put a Barracks of riot control troops nearby so when drunk idiots show up to climb over your totally climbable 1 meter barricade that protects the Data Processors you have something else there to protect them.

Whoah whoah, this is the upper city, only the affluent and the worthy, if peasants want to get drunk and cause trouble, that's what the undercity is there for. Aside from which to drunk people a one meter barricade can be lethal.

The seven year old inside me just did an air guitar slide when looking at this station. Great work!

I'm wondering what it will look like from the outside. That's clearly not a consideration yet though I suppose. I usually build something then put the internals in afterwards - but then, I just like to have everything that should be inside a spacecraft be there, not hyper-realism like Orphaniel is going for here.

I my head, it's not going to look super different, actually. There will be an assumed artificially contained atmosphere containing the entirety of the station, rather than a physical barrier. The city will be the topmost level (aside from the tower, which is part of the city rather than a level in itself). The other levels will descend downwards with mostly open sides, so we will get an industrial layer-cake effect. Think of the likes of an oil rig, but taller, in how it shall look, I think - and with a fancier top.

It might turn out differently, time will tell.

    Oh dear.

Ehhh, this is Starmade we're talking about though... I'm sure it'll be fine.

    That's pretty awesome.
I've never really gotten the hang of building in Starmade (unlike in Minecraft) but this really makes me want to start building an epic station right now.

Mind if I *cough* borrow some ideas?
At any rate, it's pretty hard not to since this seems to contain right around anything anyone could ever want.
