Basically, the idea is to have specific camera slaved to specific weapons computers, allowing weapons arrays facing different directions to be feasible. This way you could say have a crew member in a rear facing array be able to look behind the ship, and target opponents behind. It would of course taken into account already in function game mechanics.
I believe it is a very simple concept with very little explanation necessary.
Example:
Crew member enters missile computer for rear facing defense/offense system
Weapons computer for said system has slaved to it a camera looking at the back of the ship.
He can now lock onto targets behind. Simple.
