There are situations where different FOV settings are more suitable than others. When in astronout mode you might want a high FOV setting to see around while in a long range combat ship you may want a lower setting to see where are you aiming/shoting from far away.
That's just one example. The solution would be to set the most comfortable FOV value for each camera in the ship, so you can have the minning camera, close combat camera, long range combat camera, exploration camera, docking camera, CCTV camera, etc. Each camera set to what you feel more comfortable, while you can adjust the default FOV for astronout mode and ship core in the game settings.
All of this can be combined with a camera zoom that is activated with one key (I'm not sure if a zoom feature is already in the game, didn't found that in the controls settings). This zoom can be used for aiming or whatever in combination with high FOVs or wahtever you can think of.
How it works: You open the camera GUI with R. You can see a checkbox that says "Use default value" which uses the FOV value from the game settings. If unchecked, you can set the custom FOV value for that camera with a slider control.
For the zoom control, you press the zoom key and the FOV is reduced causing a zoom effect until you release the key.
