In the latest dev builds, we finally have scanners that were suggested for a long long time. However, I think there's so much more potential in this block than just checking if there are any more ships in the sector system you're in. I suggest allowing players to link effects to scanners to give them different functions. For example:
EMP would allow the player to see the target ship's shields not in just percentage, but also actual capacity and how much of it is filled (instead of 100%, it would show, for example, 12394/12394)
Punch-through would allow the player to scan the cargo of the target
Stop effect would highlight ships that are in process of scanning something or someone else. Could be used to detect illegal scanning.
Explosive would allow to scan planet and asteroid recources sectors away from the objects (because from close-up you can see what ores they have anyway)
Push would allow to scan the power of the target similarily to how shields would be scanned with EMP.
And so on.
