I start the game, hit play, and it acts like it is loading until the screen never changes from white and then this pops up. i was playing the game perfectly fine yesterday.

I assume something went wrong with your opengl api, did you try to restart the computer?
Possibly check your options or delete the settings.cfg from your directory and restart without changing anything, then change option for option back to the settings you used, to see if there may be a single setting causing this.
(Sometimes video driver updates break existing configurations and suddenly fail to load)
