I can provide a screenshot or video later when I get home to illustrate what I'm describing but upon approaching a planet right when you enter the atmosphere the textures to nearly all the blocks above the magma core disappear and begin redrawing erradically if at all sometimes. Some planets are fine and this doesn't occur at all. Usually when the issue is about to occur, my frame rate will drop all the way down to 5-9fps. Normally it's pegged at my vsync @ 75fps.

The reason why I think it may be a rendering issue and not something unrelated is because I also get a "Shadows not supported" error and will be disabled, which is weird because I dont notice the lack of shadows in various other games. It might be a memory issue I suppose, but I have 32GB of ram and the video card has 3GB.

I'll provide my cfg when I get home as well.

    OS: Linux Debian AMD64 (unstable)
Driver: Open source Radeon Version: 1:7.5.0-1
Kernel: 3.17.0-rc2 (i need to update i know)
Video card : 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Tahiti PRO [Radeon HD 7950/8950 OEM / R9 280]

Some AMD drivers have issues with occlusion culling, did you try disabling it?
(Esc -> Options -> UN-check the box beside "Occlusion culling")

No, I had it enabled. I was unable to get around to loading up the game yesterday to take screenshots/movies etc. I'll hopefully have time today.
