    Have an update!
Nice work :) Although if there was a longer approach to the camera before the fly-by, the viewer would be able to see more of the shape and detail on the ships.

I played around with some more settings on sketchfab and it turned out quite well. Next step: create some fitting normal maps, the ingame ones don't fit exactly with the textures the export spit out.
normal maps fixed thanks to Crusade

The normal maps worked for me! Make sure you're using the TGA maps, and not the PNG

ah yeah, just checked it and you're right. On the .png normal maps some blocks don't allign with the actual texture, but the .tga maps do fit. Thanks

i actually had to modify the normal map of t000 cuz the png version of it has certain textures out of place. You're telling me that I could've saved 10 mins by using the TGA file instead?

TGA also contains the emissive and specular information in the alpha channel. ;)

Anyone know a good way to get ice to behave properly in Blender? I've been having trouble with it, it's too... dark, or something. In the last render I did, here:

More shenanigans with Blender. Planet is actually part of the scene, not just a background. :p
I had to edit in the engine glow in post-processing with GIMP. In-game it looks almost identical to that image, but in Blender, it's like somebody's shining a colored flashlight through styrofoam. I suppose I could just make a separate material but that would take some time.

EDIT: Actually, here's what it looks like fresh off the GPU:

You could try using an mask to specify a different material area - and use a subsurface scatter shader on specifically the ice crystal - that might emulate its appearance

    Ew, computationally intensive stuff. XD
I'll try those two, would be really nice to get this thing working right. I've compensated by making everything REALLY glowy for now. :P

Not sure if im doing this right but whenever i switch over to cycles render the model has all these black boxes all over it
    cycles error.png
This is what its suppose to look like.
    cycles normal.png
Am I doing something wrong or is there something wrong with cycles?

All my renders are done in cycles, with some very heavy material node layouts - I'll post them and possibly a material library .BLEND here eventually!
Hehe, yeah, all I have done so far is make the diffuse texture link to a glossy shader. :P If I spent an hour or two I could probably get some fun stuff going.

Update blender to latest (2.78). If that doesn't work, update GPU drivers, or switch to CPU rendering (if using GPU)
ok I think I managed to fix it. updated my graphic drivers but i switched the renderer to GPU. using the CPU is what caused the black boxes
