Everyone (I assume) agree its very easy to obtain massive amounts of credits in a short period of time. Mostly due to the limitless inventory space a character can hold.

Creating slot limitation on characters would allow for Plex storage usage which in turn would benefit the game tremndously opening up many avenues for differnt games of play and reward.

Currently someone makes a single miner/salveger ship and goes to a space station/Ice planet and harvests 100's of thousands of items and sells them at random shops around the sectors. Instant bill gates mode. After that the need for credits is practically pointless.

End game has been achieved now whats left is building the ship of your dreams. You got blow up? No big deal you already have 2 billion credits just purchase your blueprint. Out of credits for your 100mil ship? Easy fix, ill just get my miner/salvager and spend 20 minutes getting it back.

    The replacement:
Limit player inventory 500-1000 of one item per slot. Add plex storage to be linkable to your harvesters/salvagers so when you do these things it places them in plex containers.

Tier Plex Storage: (numbers not set in stone just an example)
Tier 1: Purchasable from the shop, holds 5k per slot.
Tier 2: Manufacturable only, holds 10k per slot.
    Tier 3: ^ 25k per slot

    The end result:

This would make local storage important on ships. Killing another player would be worth the time and you would actually benefit from it.

Haulers would serve a purpose in the game creating a whole new avenue for manufacturers, miners, and pirate players.

The economy would open up trade between players creating a more thriving universe that feels more immersive. As it is now everyone is self sufficiant and can do everything without the need of other players.

    Thoughts?

I agree with your opinion. I see a ton of haulage/transport ships on these forums, and the designs may actually be usefull now! Also, the storage should be usable as multiblock structures, the more blocks of storage, the more you can store

In all honesty, I disagree with the initial hypothesis. While I\'ve made a few transport ships as per my \'Living universe\' project, I find plex storage to have very little of any impact on the game, yet alone being unbalancing and I am disappointed other posters didn\'t comment much ont hat aspect on your post.

People obtain limitless amounts of credits not because of containers, but because of availability of highly valuable items - stripping neutral stations or getting very expensive loot from the ships. In fact, I was acquiring great riches without using plex storage. At all. The only time I have any use for it is not, as you\'d assume, acquisition of money but bigger building projects that require many different types of blocks - and then, it was just for the sake of convenience so I dont\' have to run back and forth between shop and construction area but to just bring all my resources with me.

I believe you read the post incorrect. I am suggesting to use plex storage to store your items instead of having one inventory slot that holds 100k+.

Your post is proving my point.

The point of making the proposed changes to the way PlexStorage is approached through the game is to make it useful, while having limitations on storage in general. The proposed method encourages more creativity and a slightly deeper mentality in designing your ships, as you can\'t just fly through every drop pirates give and collect everything valuable without thought to how much space you have. This means you have to stop and drop off your goods at a shop every once in a while.

While I agree with all the points made in the original post, and the succeeding posts that agree with it, I believe this would be a harsh constraint on the game until shops are self-managing in terms of pricing and inventory (prices vary according to supply, supply changes over time).

Initially, the large ship builder within me who wants uninterrupted building would disagree with this, because it would be a pain in the butt to go out of build mode every 15 seconds as I lay out large parts of my ships frame.

-BUT- I do agree that things are getting stale as it is, and having higher risk for rewards would be wonderful. Exciting, even. Escorts would have purpose, the universe would come alive as convoys go thru and fro from planet to station, variations in factions arise (ex: Mercenaries for hire for Harvesting oriented factions). Roles would be diversified as well, and in a way each player can feel important. (Better do my best to protect this large cargo ship hauling our goods home).

I\'d like to see the OP\'s suggestion happen though, but at the same time not punishing those who want to build their dream ships as a way of relaxing/escaping from stress in daily life. (Maybe have a \"creative\" option in SINGLEPLAYER SANDBOX, but in multiplayer it\'d have the limited inventory stacks per slot.)

This would allow large/massive ship builders to build in peace should they choose to, without having to destablize a multiplayer game should they wish to import their designs. (They\'d still need a LOT of money to pull in that dream ship of theirs, right? So they\'d have to work for money just like everybody else, WITH the limited inventory space.)

I was just thinking this exact same thing yesterday. Without this feature there\'s really no point to having transport ships, smuggling, escorts, etc. It would really flesh out the different roles within the universe. That\'s what I\'m looking forward to. That point where, with polish, the game feels alive. I agree with every post above in favor of this restriction.

@sanman though not intuitive, with the use of admin commands and item codes you can effectively play in \"creative mode\".

    /giveid Player_name ###(item code) ###(amount of items given)

Perhaps build cubes could be linked to specific PlexStorage containers to allow you to draw from their resources without leaving build mode?

You see, not only would this bring player play alive. But when used with my previous ideas of Dedicated, large world servers (Open-World, SOON TO BE ELDER SCROLLS ONLINE!, dedicated, otherwise known as first-party hosted servers), and more interactive, self-sustaining A.I., such as pirates that raid trading guild routes that take trading guild miners/cargo ships to and from shops/planets/asteroids. Along with random, \"city-state eqsue stations that contain NPCs and various other things that actively trade with shops, mine asteroids, and fend off pirates.

All this would bring starmade to life!

1 problem tho. What i just suggested, is almost EXACTLY what Kinetic Void (Another custom ship creation Currentyl Alpha space game) will be like. Minus dedicated servers.

I agree with the idea of limiting player inventory in some manner and requiring a ship with proper parts to carry larger numbers of things.

But I would say we shouldn\'t do this just yet. Seems more of a thing to get set up in Beta, once more of the base game is fitted out.

This could be impleneted as an option similar to another game. Make this a version of the game. Survival mode. And the current build could be considered creative mode. Along with survival mode a option to remove local ship blueprint uploads should be added as well.

Agree with op, a limit would be sensible. Even a 1k max would not be bad imo. If you can take everything you own with you then plex containers become useless. If you wnt to build a huge flag ship, build it next to your base where your supplies are, that is how it should be anyway.

i absolutely love this idea, but i have to agree with Sanman2006, getting out of build mode every 3 minutes or so, the amount of time it takes me to click away 500 blocks, to refresh my inventory of blocks would be a pain in the ass, and since i do all my ship building from resources gathered legitimately, i wouldn\'t be building my ships in creative.

Hersheys suggested a block that links your plexstorage to your build mode inventory, i like that idea and it would work excellently on my dreadnaught. the way i see that block working is just like a weapons computer, you place it down then link storage to it, and vertical space isn\'t really an issue, i mean we already have scrolling inventories. but rather than when you open your inventory in build mode it showing your actual inventory and then the storage inventories, it should ONLY show whats in storage that way you can just leave all your stuff in storage and pull it to your hotbar as you need it, this also means you have one big inventory rather than 2 little ones to look through.

I\'m not so sure. I want to agree, but I\'d like to know how this would affect people starting out on the game first.

New people would have to learn it as they go, but for new people the change might actually make this easier to understand than for people who\'ve gotten used to the current system.

If this was implemented people would obviously wipe there servers to implement this type of mode. But without restrictions on local uploads on ships this would make thie mode somewhat shoddy.
