Well, if pirate stations are scrap when killed then may as well make pirate ships also scrap when killed.
To make pirate ships and stations worth hunting, have the trading guild pay you a reward (in either credits or blocks, dunno) for the ship, based on how powerful it is.
How powerful a ship is could be determined by assigning certain value to blocks. Say a shield give 10 difficulty points, while a hull block give 1 difficulty point and so on for every block. More reward for the higher difficulty value of a pirate/pirate station killed.
