Pirate ships should be scrap as well

    Well, if pirate stations are scrap when killed then may as well make pirate ships also scrap when killed.

    To make pirate ships and stations worth hunting, have the trading guild pay you a reward (in either credits or blocks, dunno) for the ship, based on how powerful it is.

    How powerful a ship is could be determined by assigning certain value to blocks. Say a shield give 10 difficulty points, while a hull block give 1 difficulty point and so on for every block. More reward for the higher difficulty value of a pirate/pirate station killed.

    Nope.

    We could add a bounty system, but ship loot is fine as it is.

    Maybe add a bounty system that will tell you were a pirate ship or station is and tell you to go destroy that specific one? And ship loot is good as of right now.

    I COULD try to make a mod that sets the "scrap" status on every entity with the faction ID -1 it encounters. (See my [not anymore updated] scrapper mod)

    Please don't kill the already very limited PvE present in the game. Would you rather hunt pirates or crash the server mining a planet to get essential materials?

    Harvesting a ship, basically picking off the still working parts of a dead pirate, versus magically obtaining loot and/or credits deposited directly into your inventory.

    Not every server uses Shops, and even if you ignore that, having to fly back to them to get anything is a massive waste of time.
    Stations are scrap because they are easy compared to the custom pirates server have, and were far too easy farm (I used to do with a very small ship). Could always go for a server setting to make NPC stations/overheating ships scrap.

    My thought exactly. PvE offers an excellent alternative source of materials, especially with custom pirates ^_^. It also provides a healthy pass-time for combat whores like me.

    Not to mention that combat salvagers is one of the best ship role ever, lol.
