Beware around planet 8,8,5 - Tends to be 6 shops here but also many pirates near that area. You also often accidentally fly into the sun, whilst in combat!!
Just FYI, this game is like Minecraft. Each universe is proceduraly generated and random.

No two players will ever see the same exact universe unless they are playing on the same server.

The 1984 Elite was procedurally generated, yet was the same for all of us. ;) I have deleted worlds about 10 times and started new ones and they all have the systems in the same place.

Two replies, two different answers? :) Since I do have a planet at 8,8,5, I assume that it's not entirely random and not really like Minecraft in that respect. But much of it probably varies from game to game. How much? Well, I guess I don't care right now, because it's all new to me.

    Thanks, guys!

As for finding details, here's some screen caps.
Thanks, Dannage. That's very useful. I think I just didn't go far enough. And since I've only got a mining ship, with just salvage beams, it didn't show very much anyway.

I've been adding more shields to that, but each one doesn't seem to add much (nor do power capacitors seem to add much). And I'd really like an emergency drive, so my mining ship can escape problems. I haven't even started to look into that, but I'm sure it will add even more to my ship. And if I do build a military ship, it will have to be bigger yet.

My underground lair is looking smaller and smaller all the time. I can build a bigger ship there, but I'll never get it out. Heh, heh.

    Thanks again!

Because both are right .. kind off ;)
the Planet at 8 8 5 is either a bug or hardcoded
(i think its hardcoded to have at least one planet in system 0 0 0!)

Those are two Screens from 2 newly generated universes .. totally different .. except that 8 8 5 planet

It might be that the 6 shops thing just randomly happened twice. Like I say, I haven't been back there in my current world, since I've only got 10k shields on my utility ship, ergo, can't stand up to pirates yet. I have only ever remembered the planet at 8,8,5 - maybe I should have studied the other ones more! (trust me to pick the bugged one!!)

WCG, if you get two contradictory answers and one of them is from me, mine is probably wrong, since I'm technically still a noob.. and I've never played on any serve other than my own sandboxes! ... Also, I'm dumb. :confused:o_O;):D

Heh, heh. OK, well, that's interesting.

Say, what's the significance of the different colors of the orbital rings (yellow and purple, in those screenshots, but not for the same orbits)?

Those two solar systems seem similar in other ways, too: four planets, with a wider gap between the two inner planets. I think that's the way it is in my game, too - certainly the four planets part (the gap might be procedural in a solar system with four planets).

Thanks for the replies. I'm getting a low memory warning now, all of a sudden, so I'm waiting for a reply over in the support forum. But I'm already planning my next ship. :)

Yellow are asteroid orbits and purple are planet orbits. on a purple orbit spawns one planet (except the 8 8 5 one that is always spaning).
orbits maybe empty (then they do not show a yellow or purple ring of course)

OK, I guess there weren't four planets in either of those screenshots, huh? :p I was confused by the 8 8 5 planet on a yellow ring, I guess. Thanks again, SmilingDemon!

Just nitpicking <g>, but you could have found that out by using the toggle button for asteroid belts in the Galaxy Map (P). :D

Btw, those belts aren't a to precise indication, some more rare asteroid types I often found away from them on a 90 degree angle of the belt plane, so your mileage may vary. ;)

I just built my first military ship and killed my first pirate, and - surprise, surprise - I've got a few more questions. :)

    1. How do I tell if my ship is injured? (Not from the pirate, if that matters. I flew too close to the sun. I don't think it got past my shields, but how do I tell if any of the blocks have been weakened?)

    2. The pirate dropped loot, which I picked up by flying into it. But it went into my personal inventory, which quickly filled up. How do I set the storage chest on my ship to collect the loot, before filling up my inventory? (Note that I know how to connect salvage beams to a storage chest, but my military ship doesn't have salvage beams. Do I still connect the chest to a weapon or something?)

    3. I stopped the pirate ship core from exploding, and I wanted to fly it back to my base, so I could check it out in good lighting before dismantling it there. However, there was the little matter of the ship I already had. I couldn't fly them both back. So I ended up just dismantling it in space. Is there a more useful alternative?

Afterwards, I wondered if I could just build a docking module into my ship, so I could tow any captured pirate vessels. I don't know if it would work, but even more, I wonder if it would be worth it. Still, I'd like to get a good look at them. What about you guys? What do you do?

The blocks will have visible damage to them. Generally speaking, they will look darker than normal as they will be covered in progressively worse black cracks.

You don't, its a major pain in the butt and comes up all the time in Suggestions. One trick that I do when I go pirate hunting though is to fill my inventory with one of everything I want to get (so computers, modules, hulls, etc). That way if the good stuff drops, I'll pick it up because it had room to stack. The worthless junk like plants will get left in space because there won't be any slots to pick it up into.

Put a docking block on your main ship, and dock the pirate ship to yours and carry it back.

Works just fine. I keep a docking block on my harvest ship for exactly that reason!
