first i want to thank schema for the AI improvements, especialy the missiles.

second, i want to know this:
since when can a missile vary in it's damage?!

so i have this nuke missile on my ship, and a target with 0 shields.
how come that when i shoot my nuke the first time, i do as much damage as my heat seaking missiles of 20 modules. and the othertime i do the proper damage, about 5000 modules and explosion effect.
makes no sense, this is most likely a glitch because a missile would do always the same damage when the situation is the same, and it was, enough blocks to break and no shields.
please fix it, i rely on my nuke missiles

Because the first impact is hitting the target with 100% armor, so it absorbs a lot of the damage. When the armor gets lower, it does more and more damage.

This is intended behavior as far as i know.

Hit the armor at an odd angle. Armor blocks propagation of explosions as well.

The shape of your target now has a bigger impact on what level of damage is accrued.

Might mean those doom cubers might start putting random angles on their stuff.

I'm trying to figure it out as well. Missiles on the fighter I was testing with went from doing 9k to 50k per the damage screen, but they seem to do negligble damage while having a pumped up energy cost.

I think with the missile rework not 100% of that damage is being applied depending on shape like Thadius said. If I was reading the patch notes right to get the max damagae out of a missile you'd have to punch through the armor and fire it into the ship which explains why your second shots did more damage

You get the most damage by hitting inside a small, deep hole.

Failing that, you want a totally flat surface. A totally flat surface ensures that only half the explosion goes into space.

Hit a curve and you lose more damage. Hit a sharp wing or spire and you waste even more.

So guys, we know exactly the types of structures to avoid right :P

But in all seriousness this is a pretty nice change and seems to work pretty well as far as I've seen.

sounds like the bounce off suggestion I made long ago, only 1 thing is not true
as in theory not true, maybe in game true.
a wedge can be a flat surface, depending on what angle you look at that wedge, just as a block can look like a wedge at a certain angle.
in theory the angle of the missile should count, the type of block says what effects the angle of the missile give.

    anyone proposing doom balls yet?
[DOUBLEPOST=1436663163,1436663030][/DOUBLEPOST]also, I must say that angle makes quite the difference between half a ship destroyed or only 1 fifth of it destroyed.

ive made several doom balls in the past that were under 100meters diameter and could take out planets
