I kinda like the idea of each core having a (server set of course) limit on the amount of blocks attached to it.
..but only if ANOTHER core could be placed as one of those blocks, and "entered"/selected to access the blocks "controlled" by that core.
-perhapse sheilds would only protect components connected to the same core as them, thrusters the same. Making each "core" a type of section shielding(like some people are doing with docks anyways) independent of each other, but one the core associate with that sheilding & power is destroyed/overheated they become inactive until repaired.
-maneuvering really large ships (on small block per core core servers) would require a team effort (x thrust per user of a core)
-there are not many cores on a ship to be aimed at, who knows which one has the pilot in it?
