So I did a little something, with StarMade in mind:( -------------- )

    Version 2:-------------------

    Final Version (almost): https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/51891186/StarMade/StarMadev3.mp3

Would this be the type of music fit for starmade?

Right now it has a bit of a "warm" mood if you know what I mean, might need to make it "colder", like outer space, but I composed the piece of music with exploration in mind.

Using Ableton Live 8.0.1 atm, made the instruments from scratch (the pads are actually analog synths!), the whole arrangement is rather simple atm, so it's more a concept than anything else, just to give an idea.

I really enjoyed this tune and would love to see some actual music and more audio in the game. You get my vote +1

I\'ll post a slower version later today, to see how that turns out.

-Reduced BPM to 75, is slow enough.

-Improved clarity and balancing throughout the track.

-Added some extra volume curves and changed some other minor stuff.

Love it, great composition. He\'d do well to get you on board ;).
No need to be any colder than that. Space being cold is a myth, it\'s just not any temperature as there\'s nothing there. However, it is very bleak which I feel is reflected in your music, but with some nice hopeful tones in there too.

I\'m gonna say I enjoyed the track a lot but would benefit from proper direction. There will be no way that you could possibly come up with a one way track to fit all situations. I suppose it all depends on how involved you want to get with this project of yours. By all means if this is only supposed to be a one time track then it\'s great and you dont need to read any further.

To start with you might be trying to find your target audience with this music. I dont mean us as the players, more so the developers. I\'m pretty sure the makers of this game would have proffessional musicians and sound technicians for the game already so might I suggest for future modding? With this possibility you could write music with the intent of mind that you could partner with a coder to create a mod to include custom music. Of course as mods are extemely difficult to code as is, making the music for these future mods right now might not be, but what sort of music would you include?

I think the music you provided would benifit a lot from the perspective of a title screen music. It\'s a nice \"wholesome\" view of the space sound, but other games modes would benefit from the styles of music that could be played.

I don\'t know if it\'s just me, but i cannot get enough of this from mass effect http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eoqyXSDpr14 . To me it just symbolises space travel perfectly and I believe travelling through space with an infinite loop of something simlilar would give a great feeling of exploration and adventure. Of course you could not have music just for exploration as building and fights would need to be equally important.

For building I\'m not quite sure as what would work. I suppose anything with a feel of \"ease\" with an apparent space feeling would work well. But for combat something like this would work brilliantly http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KO1jKOzs9oY . By no means would I expect this kind of epic masterpiece to be performed by the average joe, but the theme of epicness could be directly implemented into the kind of battles that are played in space battles.

You have obviously made a first step with creating this music, but i feel if you have a more focused view on what you want to do, you could go much firther with this.

I really love the way this sounds. Would be great for an in game musical addition. You should try making some upbeat sounds as well :P \"Action\" if you must.

I think it was meant more as a taster of what could be? To me, it sounds great. Yes, of course it could be taken further, but there\'s a ridiculous amount of time that needs to be invested in doing something like the pieces you linked.

As far as I\'m aware, there is only one person programming the game currently. A second is a co-designer and does some tutorial videos. Unless this has changed recently, there are only two people working on the game, and they\'re both extremely dedicated.

Again, keep in mind, music/sound taste is only ever based on opinion, and Archer\'s creation isn\'t all that dissimilar from that Mass Effect track either.

Definetly not going to disagree with you here. I totally agree that an immense amount of time would be involved with creating something of simliar sounds, it was really just an example of the \"style\" of music that would fit each particular theme.

Yes I\'m aware they are the only two people involved, but it\'s not to say they dont already have music planned already. Even if they don\'t, my idea would increase his chaces of official music as he would have a catalog of different themes for different situations.

As for the taste of music, I agree with you. The clips I mentioned were simply examples of what could fit into each theme, but that is completely up to the artist.

All and all I think direction could exponentially increase it\'s popularity as archer has good potential. Whether it becomes his music gets incorperated into a mod (I\'m sure future coders would be all on it), developers love it or it\'s simply a taster for us it\'s sounds pretty cool.

Thank you for commenting, guys, I actually expected this thread to kinda fade away in the darkness, but instead quite some motivating and useful posts have been made.

It\'s true, I was just giving a taster of what could possibly be fit for in-game music, less than 2 hours went in this piece atm to be exact, but if schema desires music for his game and happens to like this, I could make a track out of it.

chrv, your comment is of great help to me, it gives me new ideas to focus on. The Mass Effect track is nothing all that hard for me to do, but you may understand that the other track you linked might\'ve been performed by an orchestra. I\'m not bad at making things sound realistic, but I prefer to use synthesis for everything I produce, because that removes the whole licensing problem samples often bring. Besides, that track is really beyond the scope of what I\'m capable of right now :P

FineNerds, I intend to make more upbeat stuff for fights and such indeed, because it really adds a lot to the immersion. I look at Freelancer\'s excellent soundtrack for example, the game has very fitting music for both exploration and battles, let me give you a fine example of one of the battle tracks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxycNklLDkg

I got more stuff back at my soundcloud page, but nothing really star-made related for now.

I also produce faster music though, for example this particular track I made for an opensource free fps called Xonotic: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/51891186/WIP/DnB-OPtimized95-Final6v8.ogg

Hi guys, I kinda finished the track now, will have to do one final check for errors some other time.

The first part barely changed, with the exception of an annoying reverb/delay issue (too much treble in it).

The second part is completely new, and basically makes the track enter a slightly slower pace.

    Tell me what you think!

This just sounds amazing. It fits the space theme perfectly, and I find myself clicking the play button again and again.

It also motivated me to try to make my own (slightly more upbeat) song for the same purpose , but it came out nowhere as great.

Thanks mate, it\'s nice to see that people get inspired.

The chords in your track are pretty nice, but in my opinion they would do really well if you slowed the track down a little bit, and if you added effects that increase the sense of space (especially this).

Such effects can be: reverb/delay, a flanger, a phaser, a chorus, etc.

Generally, having a good deal of reverb gives the feeling that you are in a very large area.

Another way of giving your track a nice touch of ambiance, is to make the key changes of the main instruments smooth, by using high attack/release values for the synths you\'re using.

Right now, the main harmony instrument has a pretty sharp attack, you might want to use that kind of sharpness for side-instruments, like bells and such, and make it smooth instead.

Hope the above was of any use for you, thank you again for your feedback!

    That\'s nice stuff Archer.

I\'d also be willing to contribute some tracks for use in the game. However, I\'m no expert, just mess around in Ableton. They may be unfit for human ears....

Maybe you guys take a look/listen and let me know?

I\'m putting together a Starmade themed album titled \'Starblazer\'

    EDM, fast paced and glitchy.

I\'ve started a few tracks but havent finished them as of yet.

There are a few of my tracks over here:
    My Soundcloud

    This is an experimental track.

This thread is not meant for your album, it is meant for possible in-game music.

I like A Mission, and Erskine, because they set the right ambient mood.

I didnt mean it like that, the album is the type of music I listen to while playing. It\'s my in-game music. I was sharing, artist to artist.

EDIT: Upon review, I think i should of originally mentioned that haha.
