With a turret it doesn't matter where you placed the core(unless you placed like 50 blocks away), as much as the docker.

but if ur making a capitol ship then what happens if u place the core wrong and you have to delete the ship and start over again?, or what if u have a bp and 52 docked entities that use a core docker and need to replace that with rail dockers?
