    This one is a quickie:

A new weapon computer + module, and a new logic block.

The weapon, called logic beam, does no damage and has very limited range (which can be increased by slaving more modules to it). The logic block is called beam activation module and has a high output when it is hit by a logic beam, low output otherwise.

"But hzzzln", you might say, "we got wireless logic blocks already. Why do we need another form of wireless logic transmission?"

While that is true, there are some downsides to the wireless logic blocks we have. First and foremost: you can only ever link two modules together. If you want to have a docked entity communicate with their mothership, you always have to link the two together manually. With my suggestion, you could have a logic beam on the docked entity and have the dock set up so that the beam always lines up with the beam activation module. It gets a lot easier to exchange the docked entity.

On the other hand, a new beam might introduce a lot of lag. I think that this can be balanced by the fact that the beam has a very low range (1m per slaved module?) and maybe even cost a lot of energy to fire.

To save block ids make the camera block capable of firing the logic beam like the ship core used to but also have it be able to fire upon receiving a logic signal. The beam should be able to interact with docked entities logic blocks.

Just let us slave the core to logic, receiving a high signal sends a left-click beam for one tick, receiving a low signal sends a right-click beam for one tick.
Would be simple and does the job.

I don't really see the point in having two parts for this... Just make it a single module that shoots a beam with the same range as the core beam. I REALLY REALLY REALLY want this for docking systems-related stuff, though.

You mean like hitting a button with the core beam, or am I missing something?

...yes. I totally forgot you can do this.

But it is still not possible to activate that beam by logic, or is it?

    nope

this suggestion is about the same as the suggestion I made in a privet conversation, a short-range wireless logic signal, wanted to use that for special ship docking, say every ship of the faction has this docked extra thing of logic. when you'd dock to rails at the station, a logic signal is activated on the station, if it was wireless, all ships will get a signal, but with the short range only the docked one would get a signal.
kinda the same concept if you would use a beam, though I'd like to have the range a bit longer than core range

Way ahead of you. It's a nice idea, but I doubt it needs to cost any power or have a short range, beams no longer cause as much lag as they used to, and I doubt too many cross entity logic contraptions will be going with ridiculous amounts of beams a week after it would be implimented.
And here I am, thinking I did a thorough search of the forum if my suggestion has been posted already. My thread gets worse with every post.

Yes, problem is, that doesn't seem to work when docked any more. And you're restricted to one very specific angle when docked, which is not always optimal - having a logic beam fire out the top or bottom of a ship is usually better.
