Ships should be filled with invisible blocks of 'air'. This air is replenished with a block and depleated when the hull has been breached and the air has access to a breach.. Apart from a 'realism' purpose this has a few other purposes...

Air inside the ship/station could allow for vehicles to travel within water/other gas without the other gas/liquid affecting the interior. (the effects are nullified and the intruding blocks aren't rendered)

Nebulas, gas giants and oceans are seriously cool but it would feel stupid if they all leaked into the ship.

Furthermore the 'air' could provide interesting looks in ships. A player could possibly customise the apearance of his ship/station's climate. a subtle orange hue or the gas could thicken in the direction of gravity, forming a smoke screen for the floor.

Perhaps it would be also interesting to have the option to poison the air on purpose AND for certain objects (like perhaps generator) to produce their own waist product (flamable/toxic gas, arcs of lighning...) or require their own gas to function. For this there should also be gas/liquid reduction or conversion blocks.

Some gas could also be valueable and harvestable.

Methinks ship air should be infinite (though leaks take it away faster than it comes in), though there should be an option for more 'hardcore' servers to have it's supliers fueled by something finite and cheaply purchasable/harvestable.

I kinda like the idea, but how to do it functionally ? Just plonk a block down and wait for an hour ?

I don\'t even know if the engine supports this capability...

The guy is making the engine as he goes along, i think.

Invisible blocks is easy. Filling and emptying space might be a little harder, but certainly doable.

Harvesting could be done by flying thruough a clouf of them in space with a \"Ram Scoop\".

This sounds like too much effort (and strain on processors) without enough benefit

Agreed. No reason to implement this.

Handle air like the artificial gravity is handled. Though instead of having to manually click R on the air supply it would just affect everything in its radius. This would add more complexity to ships as they\'de have to have air supply vents every so often.

Vents could be connected through piping placed as decals on blocks (like redstone lines in MC). These pipes wouldn\'t be considered as blocks and could be buried by other blocks. If a vent or pipe where to be damaged and broken the connected areas would lose life support (Heat, air). Any un-suited player would succumb within a few minutes of exposure.

Though this system would add much needed complexity to ships with interiors other smaller ships with no interior would only require the one life support block likely attached to the core block by either pipes or direct connection.

As this is a compromise to traditional life-support it would not cause explosive decompression. When the hull would take damage, and no vents or pipes would have been hit, the life-support would operate normally without any adverse effect. This could be explained through the area of effect nature of vents having impercievable fields wich keep the air within an area.

I like the idea but doubt it will be implemented at all. Minecraft(modded) has nice support for liquids and gases with nice way to store, transport and use. I kind of miss it in starmade but you cant have everything, right?
