Limit on station size?

In singleplayer I'm trying to make a big shipyard for my next project. The problem is that the symmetry only goes so far, around 150-200 blocks or so. Where it ends I can't place anymore blocks. What's the reason for this?

sometimes there's an initialization area for a project you're working . running a quick scaffolding line out ahead of your actual station or build can help with this phenomenon.

Like Plusnine said you just happen to be building ahead of the initialization of the area.

If you make a long rod of 200, but you find you cant build at the end of it yet, slide down the rod until you can place a block again, and it will force another chunk to be ready, and you can continue doing that until its all ready.
