Is the AI High? Am I just seeing things? Please help!

    So I decided to build a very nice-all-rounder 20k block turret.
    Its equipped with 2 powerful can-can-punch cannons, an array of can-missiles (for pd saturation), a heavy ion seige laser and 4 powerful lock on missiles.

    First of all I started having problems with the turret rotation.... when I used the turrent rotation was fine for me, however in test it would just spin around aiming at empty space or not fire at all. So I went and replaced the embeded turret rotation with one on the side. This seemd to fix things up and it performed very well against stationary targets.

    However, I encounterd a problem when I tested it agginst AI targets: It could not hit anything UNLESS it was stationary.
    So I thought 'thats odd' and went to my SP server settings and changed the 99% accuracy from 10m to 800m and spawned a large ship 200 m away.
    Unfortunatly, the turret would just fire slightly BEHIND the moving ship even though it was right in front of it and only moving at 10-20 m/s.
    I left it for a minute and it didnt hit the slowly moving AI ship once!!!!!!! (Not for lack of trying though).
    The lock ons were fine, but the cannons would always be fired right behind the moving ship, thus not hitting it.

    Ive checked and the turrent rotation is fine, I have enough power and mass enhancers but for somereason the cannons have the worst aiming ive ever seen :/

    Am I doing something wrong? Is this a bug?? Are turrets really this useless?\Please help me guys :,(

    Do you have mass enhancers on the mothership and the base?

    Yup. Nailed it on the head. The AI can't aim.

    The problem is the cannon fire actually travels thru space. The turret aims straight at the target, by the time the cannon fire reaches that spot the ship isn't there any longer. The AI needs to lead the target with cannons but that is a bit more complicated for a computer then you would think since humans do it so easily.
    Beams, otoh, are hitscan. They hit instantly. So if the AI is missing with those, that's a bug.

    Turrets do lead the target nowadays. Sometimes. For some reason they don't always do it, which is really infuriating.

    Like this should have been fixed ages ago.... Just what the.......

    This didnt use to be a problem.
    Back when you onyl had cannons and missiles the AI seemed to be able to lead pretty well.
    Could we please get a dev or someone to respond to this?? How does the AI deal with cannons??

    This didnt use to be a problem.

    The AI leads shots 90% of the time. Other times, like when the server is lagging badly, it stops remembering to lead targets, it seems. Either that or it just aims at a block on the very edge of a turret and misses every single shot.

    I obviously missed that. Combat isn't my biggest concern. Still, there are 4 weapon systems on this turret. 2 require leading (Cc/Mc), 2 require direct targeting (Bp,Mm). Even a human operator wouldn't be able to do both at the same time.

    I use Cannon/Cannon with Beam/Cannon visual effects. Both hit the target perfectly fine, provided the target isn't flying at some ludicrous velocity.

    Dire, you may want to check your difficulty level as well. Since the difficulty affects ALL AI, both friend and foe, the targeting of your turrets will increase greatly if you increase the difficulty level. As far as I know, that's all difficulty changes at this time.

    Somehow the AI can simultaneously fire 30+ different computers/wepons at the same time :) No way am I going to give a crew member that job lol.... its a great way to get around the insane grouping penalties

    Possibly, but I would bump the difficulty up to hard. Default settings tend to have a hard time hitting a barn door at 50 meters lol.

    My turrets occasionally will get stuck or something visually, and fire at the target anyways. Have had turrets perpendicular to the target and firing out the barrel sideways, and killing said target.
