Is Starmade worth playing right now?

Starmade is currently "Survive and Build"
Not separate into "Survive Mode" and "Build Mode"

So if you are not a builder but only a survivor,
i suggest you take a break, and wait for "survive mode"

FYI, i would say 50% of the fun for me in Starmade is playing with Logic,
but you refuse to learn or use or play with it, so......

What exactly is the point of making your text like this?

It's worth it, in my opinion, but you can't act like it's a full game. Accept that not everything is done.

The game is free. what are you talking about? If you're asking is it worth £10 to support the company then I would say yes.

Thats not what i am saying, i used the word worth incorrectly here, i am just saying that you will have more fun playing as a builder right now. Also, i bought the game when it was around 5 euros.

1st off, why are you asking others if it's worth it. It obviously is to them else they wouldn't be here. It was pretty obvious where the development was on this game when I bought it around Christmas time so...yes it is. FOR ME.

Edit: Let me elaborate on my thoughts. Around xmas time I was googling space sim games and cam across space engineers. I thought hey, that looks good. Reading about it, I came across a post comparing it to Starmade. OK so I looked that up and basically wet my pants. That simple. I was in/on alpha 5 minutes later and I bought it right after I got paid. I bought space engineers too. Oddly I haven't played it yet.

I said the word worth was used incorrectly by me, are you fucking blind? I was just trying to ask if there is a point in playing the game if you're not a builder right now, damn i hate this community, i shouldn't have joined the forums anyways, all you see here is sarcasm and stupid answers

Quite honestly, you only really get good answers within a day or two. Those that show up late tend to have frayed posts compared to the rest of the thread.

I hope I didn't come across ass a dick. In all honesty, if you're not into creative ship building then I would say perhaps come back at a time when more content systems are in place. This is a very exciting time for the game right now but the current game cannot support survival play at the moment. You can spice things up a bit by making custom enemies but at the end of the day most of us have decided we're in for the long haul on this one because it just has so much potential for such a small outlay. It is not for everyone and this isn't the only game I play. Take a break. We'll still be here when you get back.

As I've been saying for a while , since the game wasn't designed around PvP from the start , there's not very much for competitive players to do (as the metagame of each update is quickly figured) which makes the game a lot more passive and empty than it should be.

The ship building mechanics are definitely worth the price of entry for me, even if I'm personally pretty terrible at making things that look good. Everything else is a bit lacking at the minute, I like the crafting system but it takes a while to make anything viable for taking on pirates, especially if you don't know what you're doing. And other than building there just isn't really anything to do at the minute beyond pirate hunting.

Unless it's somehow a result of playing on EE/using their config/etc, StarMade seems to be a bit crashtastic right now.

That's mostly because nobody uses the tools that Schema gave us for Battle Mode.

It's there, people. Uuuuse it. D:<

Are there even any battle mode servers? It doesn't look like there are.

PVP could exist but we lack two things. A) Something to fight around or over. B) A way to slow or stop retreat from a fight.

Plus you add into it the weird weapon balance which I constantly harp on about it just makes it worse.

At this time if you are a PVP player or a Survivalist, you will have to wait, or go build a server yourself and hack in the parts. Sadly the pirates can be given more blueprints, but that doesn't make them more aggressive. They will rarely attack a base.

Yes, it is survive and build... But surviving doesn't mean much more than getting the biggest guns possible and sitting at your base. There's no need or even reason to expand much, or PvP, or even PvE... Once you have defenses you can just sit and build until your hand falls off or your mouse dies. In MC, you at least have to have a farm or ranch running...

Personally, I am a builder AND a 'survivor'... What first attracted me to this game is the ability to create my own ships and use those to survive and build my own empire. What I didn't realize is that there's no provided reason to even have an empire, nobody and nothing else can even threaten you if you just remain within the safety of your base, and there's not much to gain from conquering other territory when any stations outside of your homebase will just get flattened by some asshole with a doomcube unless you make them even bigger than the doomcube, which is decidedly not fun at all...

Pretty much the same with me, and I've heard many similar stories. Also, OP, I am looking forwards to the survival update as well. Its coming. I play right now, trying to figure out how to break my own limits on what I can do with both ships and logic. Logic and rails is my reason to play right now, and its true, your limits are your imagination and patience, and your knowledge of logic. I played mine craft from 0.0.8 to 1.8, and I must say, redstone was fantastic, but with logic, redstone is blown away, except some small designs that don't work in starmade

Just like in EVE, Starmade uses the "Player-Driven" content aspect of the game.

If EVE had only 30 people on their server, I can see it becoming boring.

My personal idea for a Starmade Faction would be to mass produce 'faction' ships, tier them, and allow the members of the faction to use them. The 'faction' turrets would all be universal by size as well. So a turret you had on your Tackler Frigate, could be dismounted and remounted on to another mount of the same size, perhaps on an escort drone carrier.

The whole point is to make the game modular, just like all the other space games out there. It's a system that works and I will continue to build off it for the rest of the time I play this game.

It also helps a lot if the server you play on fixes their configs so they have meaningful warfare (example. Your faction loses points if it loses territory, thus any hostile action against you will affect you in the long run eventually leading to your homebase destruction) Right now servers don't even bother messing with configs, let alone the Faction ones. So I believe a lot of the 'emptiness' in the game is due to [lazy] server owners/admins who don't try to progress the game one bit, they just set it up and run it for years, then decide they are bored and shut it down instead of changing the configs completely and providing a new experience.
