    Hi guys,

    One friend of mine encounters a strange issue on MAC.

    while the option "Shadows" is off, they are still displayed in his game (causing low FPS drop and very dark rendering....)

    Any idea of to turn them off ?
    he had no "settings.cfg" in its root starmade directory, we created one with the settings but shadows are still diplayed. (while False in the cfg file)

    also some problem with Framebuffer (OpenGL crash) and Glowing but that's not the main issue....

    Thanks for your help !

    Attached file : dark rendering with shadows while shadow option is off.

    There is usually no need to edit the settings.cfg file directly unless the game won't start at all. Most settings can be changed in-game from the OPTIONS screens. Shadows are on the ADV. GRAPHICS tab. (PARAM. GRAPHIQUE AVANCÉ)

    Also, if you didn't have a settings.cfg file, I would guess that you are not looking in the correct StarMade directory. The correct directory can be found in the launcher window by clicking the gear icon next to "Build Type" in the bottom left.

    <EDIT>
    For me the flashlight and build light both cause a large fps drop. And regarding it being too dark, have you tried increasing the "Block light quality"?

    Thank you for your answer, but finding the option is not the issue.

    The issue is while the option turned OFF, there are still shadows in the game...

    You are not seeing shadows on your screenshot.
    It is just' the absence of light.
    (No joke! Light is ray casted from all surfaces that emit light, to <light quality setting> different directions. Higher = brighter and more even light, low = only some hotspots. A surface that is not hit by such a light ray is almost pitch black.)

    Starmade has a shadow system that can handle line of sight shadows on entities and also calculate sunlight properly.

    The light and dark zones on the screenshots are the "ray cast" lights on the surface, this is always on unless you enable "lighten mode" in build mode. This sets all surfaces to a constant and high brightness. It helps in dark zones, but still has no relation to the "shadow" setting inside starmade.
